Got a CDV valve and other bits for the M for xmas, So I figured it would only take 20 mins to put in and ill do it early and get it over,

Well thats exactly what I did, and WOW,

I think most noticeable is 1st to 2nd shifts, No more jerky shifts, its very smooth now and the car feels great,
Other gear changes also go together much smoother and the cars much more exciting to drive and not so jerky, That was one thing I noticed about the M compared to my old 3.0 Z4 was how jerky the car was and it was much harder to drive smoothly,

So seeing how the roads were empty this morning I took her for a spin and had a nice little drive :D
I also passed an M6 and got a nod and a thumbs up from a fellow M driver :P

So cliff notes,

Buy a CDV, Its good
That is all

Eventually, I'll do this... maybe.

I'm a pretty smooth operator now, if I can say so myself. But I do agree, CDV delete is cool (I tried it on a friend's M with the CDV Delete).

I did consider a delete,
But JUST incase anything came up with warranty the zeckhausen valve is a stock looking valve and it would take a very eagle eyed tech to notice it

It was the second mod I did. Now I dont look like a first timer when I drive. I keep the original in tool box, just in case the tranny goes out or something weird and it has to go in under warranty. Definately a must do.!

Starscream, to that.
I also found that reduced pedal effort helped with clutch feel as well.

I read this today...

"Because of this valve, no matter how quickly you lift your foot off the clutch pedal, the clutch engages the flywheel at a constant (slow) rate. In theory, it can save the driveline from shock, were an inexperienced (or immature) driver to dump the clutch at high RPM. But in practice, all it does is prematurely wear out the clutch and turn experienced drivers into people who, despite 20 years of practice, cannot shift gears smoothly. During parallel parking maneuvers, the delay can be infuriating, causing constant clutch slippage. And during hard acceleration, the large amount of clutch slippage can greatly shorten the life of your clutch. During normal, sedate driving, the shift from first into second gear is often jerky, leading passengers to question your skill. As the driver, you can see your passengers' heads bobbing back and forth during every shift! Yes, in their minds, they are laughing at you. "

How accurate is it that it wears it out prematurely?

Who was it that was looking to do a little mod and supply them in the UK? He did a great little write up too.

Getting this done after my first service.

That will be me. You certainly don't want to pay for a "modded" valve that quite simply has had the innards punched out with a 3mm allen key...... Just remove the damn thing. The CDV is undone with a 11mm & 15 mm spanner. Take it off, re-connect the flexible hose using the 11mm spanner & re-bleed the clutch. Job done.

Unfortunately, to get at the valve on the clutch slave cylinder you need to put the car onto ramps & drop the aluminium undertray - all of 8 bolts.

i must be one of the few people that really gets on with the stock setup, ok it takes alittle learning at the start, but no i drive it just as smooth as my fiesta diesel, at the track i was doing full bore redline shifts with no issues, after 1.5years of ownership it just really doesnt bother me, more to the point would a massive company like bmw really put somethink on a car that costs them money if it didnt need to be their, or wasnt their for a reason!!??

It doesn't cost BMW any money to have it in place, especially compared to the savings they're going to be making in reduced warranty claims on driveline components and the extra profit of replacing a clutch in 2/3rds of the normal time (non-warranty).

The track is where it really doesn't matter as you're rarely going from standstill to 1st to 2nd at a medium pace.

For me, it's the pulling away from lights at a decent pace without having to rev the nuts off it to keep it from kangarooing, or sitting at the lights for a second to let the clutch fully disengage before moving your right foot towards the throttle.

like i say ive just learned to drive the car, just like every car you get in, it seems alien for a while but after some time you get adjusted, im talking about myself here so im not putting words in other peoples mouths, but i really just dont get the cdv thing, for me it just fine as it is, like i say i must be the minority here but for me, its just great as it is, and the car is fantastic, then again i drive mine on a weekend only really so maybe its more the daily drivers that see more of an issue.

i never have a problem either but that's probably coz ive done about 29k in mine and I agree you get very used to it..

not to say if I tried it I wouldn't prefer it if done.

I must admit I'm a bit perplexed about the CDV thing. Mine is a bit jerky when its cold but that soon goes away (like almost straight away) Gearchange is a bit on the cloky side but me and the Mrs have both adapted to it.

I guess you would need to drive a car with the CDV delete done to compare the difference. Most who do it seem to feel it adds to the driving experience.

I left my car standard for about 10 months before I changed the CDV and you do get used to it, it's only when you change it you realise what a difference it makes. I noticed the difference as soon as I let the clutch out to back out the garage...
