Sorry this happened to you but this is THE reason why I would never buy any second hand car without physically inspecting it first!

Other than the faults listed does it appear to have the makings of a really good car? Is the paintwork and interior condition as they appear in the photos? The colour looks great. Do the records all tally re mileage, servicing etc.? Sad you can't trust a forum member to be truthful. But to be fair if the car has been kept in a garage then the water wouldn't have been there when he owned the car. I always expect something to be wrong with a private purchase however minor, it's cheaper so the money saved goes towards any repairs. 
Keep an eye on correctly mounted taillights with pulled seals into the body.Pondrew said:

Having said that, if the car ‘was’ garaged but has been usurped by whatever replaced it then the previous owner may have been answering honestly (to the best of their knowledge) at the time you asked the question. The reason I say this is because, logically, surely you’d dry the boot out if you were deliberately trying to hide something and be underhand?
I don’t understand how anyone can misunderstand the question… ‘Are there speakers behind the seats?’
How bad (and obvious) is the crack in the rear light?, could this have been overlooked by the seller?
I’m not trying to defend the seller, he might be a complete Sh1t and might have been really underhand here, or he might genuinely be a bit bewildered… although the speaker question is still an odd one??

I was giving him the benefit of the doubt with the water TBH. When I asked if there was any water in the boot he may have just looked 'in the boot', although I did say around the battery compartment. But the speakers is black and white a lie.True-Blue said:

To pi$$ me off even more; when I was siphoning the water out onto the drive, it froze and I slipped over on it! :lol:
That is an absolute bitch of a start. However I sympathise as I was also told i had a fancy sound system but I think it is in fact the standard one, as I too don’t have speakers behind my seats!!!! (2024 project?)
Good luck fixing it up. Think in the long term. One day you’ll have a great car in a rare colour and whoever you sell it to will have the benefit of full disclosure and your good work!

I have a feeling it is something to do with the 'soft close' on the bootlid (trunklid) not engaging properly every time, so not pulling down on the sealing rubbers. I need to have a good look when it isn't below zero outside.
