First Big M Tour

I have to say, this thread is one of the best ever on here, and the fact that you give us the pics one day at a time is awesome, it would be too much to take in if they came all at once.

top pics, write up and trip mate - nice one

would have been better in the S though eh!?

That was the end of the A roads and it was time to fill up, roof up, and hit the autoroute. 2928926075_28637aaed5_o.jpg

Only 360 miles to go :D . IMO this is the best way to see northern France. From the autoroute :D
2929788298_323ce5d815_o.jpg

We arrive at the hotel about 7pm. Then it's straight to the supermarket. A bit of juggling with the luggage and putting some bags behind the seats (where the roof goes when it's down), means we can fit 24 bottles of vin rouge in the boot

Day 16 - Lens to Lancashire - 383 miles

We leave the hotel at 7am, before sunrise, on a cold misty morning for the 1hr drive to chunnel terminal. Due to the fire in the tunnel while we were away there is a reduced service with crossing every 2hrs. We were booked on the 9am crossing, but will now take the 10am; not to bad under the circumstances.

While we're waiting I noticed the weird looking bug on the boot.

He even smiled while I took his picture :D

We return to some unusually nice weather back in the UK, then joined several hold-ups on the M25 before stopping for fuel and food at the Oxford services. Kathryn offered to drive the 170 miles from here, which I eagerly accepted.

As I said at the start of the thread, the intention this year was to cut down on the big mileages we usually clock up on these tours. But it didn't quite turn out like that.

I plotted the route on Autoroute and the mileage came out at 2400. It's never an exact science so you always go over by a few miles. What was not included was the days we were staying in one place and we were not sure exactly what we would be doing, much dependent on the weather. As you can see from the pics, the weather was very good, so we made the most of it, clocking up well over 100 miles on most of these days.

Countries visited - 4 - France, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland

Tour Duration - 16 days

Driving days - 15

Average mileage per driving day - 230

Total mileage - 3449

Fuel costs - £700 (ish)

So there you have it. Thanks for taking the time to reply to the thread, it really makes it worth the hours I've spent posting the pics and trying to remember all the stuff. Hell, maybe you have even learnt something. I did.

Here's some packing tips
2931457602_cd0b3fb001_o.jpg

As I found last year in the S2000, it's amazing how much stuff you can get in here

If anyone would like more info about routes or places just let me know.

Planning for the next trip is well underway.

Until next time.....................

+1 All good things come to an end though.

Awesome and some useful packing tips there - I never even thought of using that area when I was a bit pushed for space this year!

Thanks for sharing

Wow, nice trip, got a map of the route you took?

I hope to do a european drive next summer, although maybe not as far as yours

Annecy looks great, Ubisoft have an office there thats been helping us out on a few things, I knew the area around there was nice but your photo's make it look even better and a worthwhile place to visit.

Tha bug looks freaky though, so luminous it looks like a kids toy :o

Dave, you have convinced me that a European Tour of some sort is a must next year. Great pics, hope to see you in the Lakes next Saturday and don't forget that camera!

Easily the best post i've ever read. I did a trip to Monaco for the GP last May and we did some of the same roads in Switzerland and Italy. Kept leaving the camera in the boot though so our photos are nowhere near as good. Makes me want to do another trip next year- shame the missus is pregnant and I they don't do kennels for babies!!.
:driving:

Nov 4th, our overseas list comes out. Man I hope they give me a spot.

Awesome thread, awesome drive, I hope to be able to do that one day!

Fantastic thread/pics/write up.

Brilliant.

I'm hoping to do a trip/mini trip next year and this just whets my appetite even further.
