Finally! I've booked it!

After many months of prevaricating about the bush, I have finally booked my car in, next Tuesday, for a remap.
Taking it to Anglia Car Tuning in Oulton Broad, for several reasons. Friendly guy on the phone (Ben) who was extremely knowledgeable about the N20 engine; very good customer feedback; rolling road before and after, with any little tweaks included; good price of £295 all in; and last but by no means least, a really good cross country route to drive home.
Looking at a quoted 270+ BHP and 420 Nm.

Going to be a long week ahead!

That’s a very good price Martin, they’ve got cheaper with time. The difference is incredible

I hope you are having two extra cylinders added as well as it won’t be able to keep up with a 30i otherwise..

Shouldn’t have said that really...I’m sorry...I haven’t even had a drink yet..ooh er... :tumbleweed:

That's what I thought Rob,
It's much cheaper than the quote from Celtic to send a bloke to my door without any rolling road involved.
This chap is telling me 2 to 2.5 hours.
Something else that made me go with him was his statement that if this hot weather persisted he would take longer, to be sure it cooled down properly between runs..............even with the huge great fans they use.
Probably BS, but its a small attention to detail that got him the custom.

When's your birthday sir, I shall send you a big wooden spoon

On a slightly less flippant note...now that my next intentions are blown..

I’m planning to get my inlets bead blasted and then a second dyno run back at where we did the detective work..

I’m ‘convinced’ that at 50k miles my inlets are coked up, primarily as the first owner spent 4-5 years and 30k miles driving it around Manchester...

It will be interesting to see if/how that changes things.. :driving:

If you can keep tweaking and going back to the same dyno place you should build up a very good idea of what achieves what.
All you need is time....................oh, and money :P

Well having looked over the edge of forged con-rods, pistons and a BIGGER turbo and walked away I’ll do some final tune ups and live with only 4 cylinders, 267 bhp and a torque curve averaging around 400nm and mutter about what could have been..

Looking forward to your numbers..what my is your car and mileage out of interest?

Mines a 64-plate and has just 24k on it. Have a feeling this little tweak may induce me to drive it a bit more.

Well he never parked it away from home either - the local skellies would have soon burnt that crap off getting away from plod :police:

Friday nights in the pubs in town when I was a youth, guy with a basket full of sea food (prawns etc) coming round the pubs - it was a Manchester thing as far as I can tell followed by a guy with a bucket full of 'hot' car radios for sale!

Evolve supplied and fitted an extra three cylinders with their turbo nutter remap, that’s probably why it cost so much money.
#evolvegivesyoumore :P

What model year and mileage is yours Rob?..was it a 18i originally?

When i purchased my car it was advertised as an 18i, after becoming accustomed to the humiliation i took it to be tweaked to within an inch of its life & evolve informed me it was “definitely a 20i”
When i drove it home it had morphed into a 36i
Tweaked at 19k miles, now just under 40k

Yes yes yes ..but...what’s the model year? :headbang:

I’m trying to develop my hypothesis on whether pneumatic or electrically controlled wastegated N20s re-map better...and now..how does crap in the inlet affect a re-map..

I see people worrying about coked inlets, paying for blasting etc but no one installs an oil catch can!!!

On the N54 an extra oil separator probably helps the N20 being a later design has a much cleverer oil / air separation system..AFAIK there are few offerings in that area..B for BMW reckons the issue with the N20 is on average about 2 to 3 better mileage wise..

Again the duty cycle history has the biggest impact on this area...lots of short journeys, stop start and lower engine rpms along with excessive duration oil changes are contributing factors..

Without a borescope / strip down who knows till it gets so bad that there is poor idle or marked effect on performance..

For the benefit of mankind I’ll give it a go and see what gives

Should really pull the injectors as well but...

It’s a 63 plate September 13 car, so i presume a 2014 model year :?

Maybe pm me your vin number so I can check and help build my database for my hypothesis
