actually, i do recall seeing battlewagon on this forum. so he's around! and then there's me - i'm the distributor for HP filters over here in Singapore.

cheers
:D

Gota love those filters. Anyone that has a 03- 05 should have one of these ( especially if you have steptronic trans )! :!: I had an issue with being able to down shift when in the twisties with the stock filter. With the HP filter the extra air flow has helped soo much. I put mine in last October. I have been getting 3 - 5 more miles per gallon ever since :D ( except when the filter is being cleaned ) :x . This filter is one of those mods, that you will wonder why you did not do it sooner.

IMHO This is one of the best mods you can do for the performance of the car that even I can do. The bang for the buck is awesome.  I highly recommend this filter. :driving: :driving:

how does is compare to K&N? I just dropped $50 to put one in (K&N) and noticed improved mileage when I don't drive like a maniac and seems to pull better in midrange, with a bit better throttle response.

Hey guys, I am still around for sure!

Good question, and even though both the SE and the K&N use oil and cotton, they are 2 different animals. It is how they are put together and designed that seperates one from the other.

For starters:

1. SE uses twice as many plies of cotton (which means more oil)
2. SE uses pleats almost twice as deep (which means more area)
3. SE has a nice tight leak free and stout sealing sidewalls
4. SE rivals the stock filter's 99% filtering efficiency
5. SE is tested to the newer and more stringent ISO 5011 test standards

It is easy to make a filter that flows well (at the cost of filtering efficiency) and it is easy to make a filter that protects well (at the cost of air flow) but to make one that does both well is an art! See points 1 through 4 above.

:D

Thanks for clearing that up... just had oil service done, new filter is next on my list :D

Is there a comparison to the AFE filter?

The aFe is on par with the K&N as far as filtering efficiency goes but with much better construction then the K&N.

The SE still uses twice as many cotton plies and has deeper pleats then the aFe.

Keep in mind that the particular additives each manufacturer uses in the oil mixture is what is responsible for each filter's unique flow and filtering characteristics.

AND the SE filter will not come over oiled from the factory like some others do.

AND NONE OF THE AFOREMENTIONED MANUFACTURERS TEST THEIR FILTERS TO THE NEWER AND MORE STRINGENT ISO 5011 TEST STANDARDS LIKE THE STREAMLINE FILTER.

What, if anything, has been developed for 06-07 models including M's?

I have this for the M coming up soon...this will fit both the E46 M3 and the MZ-4. It should be flow tested (on the ISO 5011 bench) soon.

Sorry that I cannot produce filter designs as fast but I am a much smaller operation then a K&N. Sometimes smaller is better!

sorry, just showing off all the domains I own :P

I ordered mine on Thursday and received it today. I can't wait to put it in and hopefully see a difference!

Amazingly fast shipping to central PA.

Hello, thank you for the warm welcome!

I installed the new filter over the weekend and now when I step on the gas I hear a quiet whistle coming from the engine bay. Does this mean that I did not get it to seal good enough in the intake compartment?....or is it just sucking in so much air it is causing a whistling sound? I don't mind the whistling sound at all...but I want to make sure it is supposed to be there and not my lack of mechanical skills :)

Thanks for everything!

Patrick

Make sure the air box lid is properly seated and that you reconnected any hoses securely.

It might whisttle a little but it should not be at a loud level...you should hear more engine then whistle.

Like above, no whistle's so make sure it's snug when fitting..

No whistling sound from mine. The filter should go into the upper housing with the seal towards the bottom. There should be four clips to close the filter housing. The filter does fit tightly ( all the better ). When I have had the filter out for cleaning the one clip towards the front of the car and towards the center of the car, seems to have two places to latch and only the tighter place is correct. I have never needed to remove any of the hoses going to or from the filter box.
