Hey guys, I am still around for sure!
Good question, and even though both the SE and the K&N use oil and cotton, they are 2 different animals. It is how they are put together and designed that seperates one from the other.
For starters:
1. SE uses twice as many plies of cotton (which means more oil)
2. SE uses pleats almost twice as deep (which means more area)
3. SE has a nice tight leak free and stout sealing sidewalls
4. SE rivals the stock filter's 99% filtering efficiency
It is easy to make a filter that flows well (at the cost of filtering efficiency) and it is easy to make a filter that protects well (at the cost of air flow) but to make one that does both well is an art! See pionts 1 through 4 above.

I installed the new filter over the weekend and now when I step on the gas I hear a quiet whistle coming from the engine bay. Does this mean that I did not get it to seal good enough in the intake compartment?....or is it just sucking in so much air it is causing a whistling sound? I don't mind the whistling sound at all...but I want to make sure it is supposed to be there and not my lack of mechanical skills
Thanks for everything!
