Having spent hours on here reading threads and reviewing brochures and magazine reviews I'd really built myself up for a new Z4. My main requirement for a new car is that it should be suitable for two people and their golf equipment. The Z4 certainly meets my need to have an interesting car and I thought that the 23 would be sufficiently brisk to meet my need for speed. I've been pretty excited about the prospect of finding a car that ticks all the boxes.
The first disappointment was that the demo car was an automatic whereas I want a manual. According to the brochure this increases the 0-60 time from 6.6 seconds to a lazy 7.3. And I have to say that the car felt slow. When I jumped in my auto Jag to go home it highlighted that the Z4 was not in the same league as far as performance is concerned. So, while I hoped that the test drive would confirm that it was the right choice for me it has only added doubts. I know I can increase the performance by increasing engine size so this is not in itself a deal breaker. However, I was hoping that someone on here has had experiences of auto and manual and can confirm if the manual feels a lot quicker. If not I'll have to go for another test drive but its not worthwhile doing unless I can resolve the following.
On the golf bag front it will certainly accommodate my largish bag either longways by sticking the clubs through the rear seats with the roof down or across the boot with the roof up. However, there is simply no way that a second set would lie across if my bag is in the first position. I've seen the video where two sets are fitted in this manner so I know that it can be done. Can anyone confirm that it can be done with anything other than the thinnest golf bags? This is the do or die issue for me.
I'm really rather deflated at the moment
