Fault code A689 ???? Help

The two microswitches are in the same location roughly as the hall sensors you found the connection on

The boot needs putting in service mode
The roof needs to be partially open with the rear boot lid open so you can see the two ram arms either side of the car

You should see the microswitches and wiring then

Cheers , boot won’t open so can’t do service mode. As I stand at the back of the car boot open the drivers side has 2 cylinders . one Bolted to the floor the other near the inner wing , presume it’s the inner wing one , I can see a micro switch at the top , is this the one ? Not attached to the cylinder but under a big nut

Yep. Have the correct switch located , so if I unplug and test it shows open circuit, I have left it unplugged but is won’t reset, I have then linked the plug so bypassing the switch and showing closed , still not clearing fault

Found a sheet on here that shows the pins for roof controller so can I test each switch from there and check against another sheet I found on here saying the state of each switch when the roof up

Once you get the top into service position, here is my video to replace the boot closed microswitch.

For diagnostic purposed, please note microswitches are not simple open and close. Micro switch test - 550 ohms not pressed, and 2.7k ohms pressed. You could buy a replacement switch (54 37 7 228 586) and wire it to pins 11 and 24 at the CTM module. This will help you get the top into position.

By the way, you could also try jumping pin 11 to pin 9 (left side sensor. It might work.

Just like to say thanks for your input problem solved I hope A682 is the microswitch , code reader said so ,bought a new switch £59?is this a good price ?
Plugged the switch in loose hoping to clear red light , no! Still flashing , changed the new switch state still flashing . Roof module plug out and check continuity from plug to switch connection nothing , checked each wire out all good , it looks like there is an adapter plug to change old to new type , pin connection duff. Made a quick by pass and light out no bong , deep joy, so it cost me a switch but that’s a spare now . How would you remedy this ? Solder direct

Well, I do the following if the new plugs are incompatible to avoid soldering:
- pinout the two pins of the OLD plug with a very small screwdriver
- cut the NEW black housings to remove the upper oval on the first step, then cut out until you can remove the pink plate
- pinout the two pins of the NEW plug with a very small screwdriver
- remove the green rubbers from each NEW pin by twisting and pulling it back
- re-crimp the "strain relief tongue" (is that the correct wording?) by a crimping tool
- put the 2 NEW pins into the old housing (black or white), orientation doesn't matter for these switches
