So opened the boot to put my work boots in and started the car, only to be met with bong and roof down switch flashing .just read the codes and have a A689 roof erect hall sensor ?? What, where , why ? And how do I fix it ?

Error codes A689 and A693 indicate Hall sensor and microswitch faults in the roof pack system

If you have a search on here there are lots of guides around how to replace the hall sensors

If you aren’t handy with the Spanners then reach out to a garage who will have a go at roof sensors

If it’s the two micro switches they sit on the roof mech, drivers side

There are two ans they fail over time

Am I correct in thinking A68a/b/c/d are the roof shell switches where is A689 it must have a location ,anyone know where it’s located been searching on here but no luck

There are some good guides on youtube.
There are wires in the arms and microswitches there which break. Sometimes the wiring is broken there and needs replacing.

Realoem will have all the position sensors and switches on their diagrams.

You can usually pinpoint which part in the sequence it fails by operating it and see which point it fails at. Then you will know what to look for location wise with the realoem parts diagrams.

It’s quite a bit of work to fix yourself, research and manual but there is lots of info on youtube and here.

It can be as simple as a broken microswitch, which BMW can replace for about £300. Might be a bit more with the recent inflation hikes.

If you like getting stuck in and can do electrics, give it a shot.

Cheers , my roof doesn’t move at all it’s in the up normal position and has been like that for weeks ,as mentioned I haven’t moved the roof just open the boot normally to put my work gear in and then bong
A689 must be a certain hall sensor I just don’t know its location

Peter

Use the search function to see the location of the two hall sensors you need to check/replace

They are located on the mechanism of the rear opening boot lid on the drivers side of the car

There is also a guide telling you what sensors to buy, how to rewire them and how to access them

Where are you based

Cheers for that should help , do got into the boot area can I unplug and link out the switches and hall sensors one at a time to help find issue

Just replace them both they are £12 plus vat (if you get the e88 ones recommended) from bmw

Ok so progress found a crao plug connection so reconnected and A689 fault gone but now have A692 micro switch rear end module closed fault

Where is the A692 switch I have look for videos but no longer there has anyone got any picks , should it be closed when the roof up or open when roof up

Found using the search function:

Covers microswitch issues and how to sort

Thanks for that and helping me out but I must be dumb I can’t see where is shows where or how to replace or check the A692 switch unless I’m missing something feel I am close to curing the issue
