Fast flashing indicator

Hi all,

Ever since installing cruise control, I have had a lighting fault and a fast flashing indicator on the passenger side (left). The inboard of the two indicator bulbs is not flashing, but I have checked the bulb (it's fine) and replacing it didn't fix the issue.

This means it's one of (at least) three things (in increasing likeliness?):

1: It was faulty before, the error was somehow coded out of the system, and disconnecting the LCM from the car somehow reset that coding and brought the error back.

2: I somehow broke the LCM in this very specific way when disconnecting and reconnecting it. I checked the pins and they are all in place and straight, but I also didn't disconnect the battery when making the installation (didn't remember to do it until the LCM was already removed :headbang: )

3: The stress of removing the connector, manipulating the cables, splicing the cruise control in, and reconnecting it all ended up breaking a wire in the loom. I removed the connector again and checked all the pins in the connector, and they all seem solid. There are no obviously broken or damaged wires in the loom, and I tried with the LCM in the footwell so there is no stress on the connector and the problem persists.

If anyone has a wiring diagram for the LCM loom, that would be very helpful. If I know what colour wire is responsible for the left inboard indicator bulb then I can check it specifically. If anyone has any opinion on whether 1) or 2) are likely, then that would be helpful too.

Cheers,
Ed

Got some great information from Scooba_Steve to help me track down the problem in the wiring, thanks again!

For now, I am hoping to code out the error (and the accompanying disco lights) since I am leaving for a road trip on Friday and the indicators are still fully functional with the inboard lamp not working. I have got up and running with NCS Expert and NCS Dummy and have set the following to "nicht_aktiv":

KALTUEBERWACHUNG_BLK_VO (cold checks on front turn signals)
WARMUEBERWACHUNG_BLK_VO (warm checks on front turn signals)
CC_BLINKER_VORN (check control notification for front turn signals)

This stops the bulb error from appearing during startup, but it still comes on (along with the fast flash) if I activate the left turn signal. I know that the coding has taken because I activated one-touch three-blink indicators at the same time and it works (six blinks on the superfast left indicator).

Is there anything I have missed?

Try coding out the rear indicators too?

Just ran to the garage to give this a try, set all the equivalent rear indicator checks to nicht_activ, but no change unfortunately.

You're welcome!

You've done the coding I would have done. At least that narrows it down to the front (the bulb check).
The only other code I can think of is to stop the defect double flash. But looking through the codes it could be a sidelight causing it, so you could try coding those out:
CC_STANDLICHT_RECHTS
CC_STANDLICHT_LINKS
KALTUEBERWACHUNG_SL_RE
KALTUEBERWACHUNG_SL_LI
WARMUEBERWACHUNG_SL_RE
WARMUEBERWACHUNG_SL_LI

Or seeing what this does:
SL_ERSETZT_DEFEKT_BLK aktiv

The side indicators *shouldn't* be monitored, but worth confirming they are not (someone could have put them on).

Stick to spannering :P
Well I actually was about to come back and say I cured the same issue for Jock156 by coding out the left rear light (LED) on his facelift.
Emjois didn't give away the teasing?

Yeah, hence I suggested checking the sides too, just in case they've been enabled.
I am surprised the checks didn't do it, as even with a complete circuit break it shouldn't detect it. Unless someone has done some butchery with the loom or headlight, connector etc.

I suggested in PM to test the loom by applying 12 V to the respective bulb pins.
