Facelift roadsters - overpriced?

I've been keeping a close eye on used Z4's for a while now and it seems a little odd.

Z4M's were my first choice and they follow a simple rule of coupe's usually being £1-2k more than a similar roadster.

Having put my sensible hat on I'm more tempted by a facelift 3.0si sport roadster.
I would have thought the previous rule would translate to the regular Z4, 3.0 roadsters being slightly cheaper than coupe's but it doesn't seem to be the case.

The pre facelift 3.0 can be had pretty cheaply, although plenty are well over priced too. £7-12k
The are several coupes that start where the pre-facelift roadsters tail off on the price scale, and they seem to be the best value atm. But there's very few facelift roadsters in this price bracket. Most of them are £15k+, a good few £k more than it would seem logical.

Were more coupes built around 2006? are coupe owners more desperate to sell because they're fashion followers? :poke:

If it comes time to buy, I may have to go for a coupe over a roadster, better looks and better value, but I will miss the roof down fun :|

Then again a £7k early 3.0 is tempting.

Don't get me started on the price of 2.0 facelift roadsters... overpriced but loads of them for sale :tumbleweed:
 
i don't look at prices but i would have thought the coupe was slightly more expensive than the roadster

Depends on the year of the roadster of course. According to Parkers a 55 plate 3.0i SE is worth £10,175 and a 54 plater comes in at £9605 (both 'private good'). Agree that £12k may be pushing it slightly though.
 
On a related subject . . . awhile back I priced out a new Z4 with the same features as my 2005 (or as close as I could get) on the BMW website. A new one would cost me about 20%, or more, than I paid five years ago. That's at least a 4% increase per year. That seemed a bit much to me.

While it might be like comparing apples and oranges, it could be that the Z4 market (new and used) maintains value at some rate higher than most. (Or, maybe, its wishful thinking.) :thumbsup: Z4 Pilot
