Facelift fog light condensation

This little black bung, seal it up with silicone all around the edge.

It clips through into this channel, in the reflector.

And the only corrosion is directly below this channel! This is where the moisture is getting in imo.

Hi Carl2990,

First off thank you for posting these pics/tutorial! I too am fixing the fogs on my 3.0si. I have a few follow up questions about how to properly seal the "bung" area that you referred to.

1. Would you seal just around the edge area or the open top part (inner opening) as well?
2. Would you recommend sealing any other part of the fog light housing?
3. Seems like you did this fix a while ago, how's the foglight holding up?

Thanks!

Just replaced my fogs - sealed the vents on the new ones - see

Drilling small holes in the unit is a dodge I have used in the past when the speedo and Rev counter on my motor bike suffered with condensation misting them up. It works, best to space them out maybe top and bottom of unit so air circulation can be made taking any moisture with it. A small piece of open weaved gauze could be stuck over the holes on top holes if you think water may enter.

The top vents have fine filters in the plugs already but they now have sealant. Hopefully if the water cant get in - it wont have to drain out.
If it does get in then yes I will put a drain plug in
I think the lights probably were submerged a couple of times in the floods this winter but were flooded when we bought it 18 months ago.
Wair and see I guess

I drilled mine last year and the condensation disappeared pretty quickly. Four X 4mm holes in each if I remember, angled so as to "scoop" up the air when driving, as recommended by a post which I'd been reading. Should have done it much earlier because by then the reflectors had corroded quite badly. Worth doing though IMHO.
Robert.
