F40 M135i Seats

After successfully fitting E89 M-Sports in my Z4 I am now looking at other options which may fit to help others.

If anyone has an F40 1 series please could you measure the bolt hole spacings.

This thread from another forum states that a guy fitted F20? 1 series seats and the rails were a match:

These seats are from an F40 M135i and look very similar to a G29 Z4 seat:

I think these could potentially be a good fit as unlike almost all the 1,2,3,4 and 5 series seats the backs are not flat and wide. They sort of curve:

Here's some more pictures of other angles of the seat:

You can also get them in blue and black Alcantara:

The lap part of the seat belt fixes onto the rail like the E85, electrics would need sorting obviously.

Prices seem to start around £650 second hand but I am sure there could be movement on those. I would happily buy a set but unfortunately I don't need them as I'm happy with the E89 seats.

If anyone in East Anglia wants to have a go at fitting some then if you get the seats to me then I can help sorting the electrics.

I just bought a F40 M135i on Tuesday. It’s got the leather seats that you have in the photo above.
I’ll look to see if I can measure for you later on today.

Front right bolt to front left bolt looks to be about 41.5-42cm
Front bolt to back bolt seems to be about 36.25cm

Sorry they aren’t more exact but it’s tricky to get exact figures.

Perfect thank you

Looks like they have rails the same as an E89. Same front to back as an E85 but narrower than the E85.

How comfortable are the seats compared to M-Sports in the E85?

P.S gorgeous car BTW, bet it goes like stink!

I spent 10hrs driving it back from south coast through England, into Scotland, then ferry back to NI. So I got a good chance to check the seats.
They are comfortable but I think you do feel that you sit up a bit more than the m sport ones. I’ve an E86 with m
Sport seats.
I did find that I was able to raise the front of the seat that is below your knees. Originally I felt a gap between back of knees and the seat which felt odd. But once I discovered the seat could raise up there, it was a lot better. They are fully electric, so I am not sure if the manual ones have that movement.
Re the sitting higher, it could be that cause it’s a hatchback, that’s they way it feels compared to low slung coupe stuff.
I think it’s fair to say that I didnt get out of the M135i feeling sore.

That's a great write up, thanks chanlon1.

Nice road trip to have in a new car

I'd 100% get a set for my E89 35i Usel, if you're up for paid help with the electrics I'll start looking for a set.

I would need to double check the width of the rails first unless you would like to but the front to back measurement seems spot on.

I have the electronics box for the E89 seats and all the plugs so I think this should be possible.

The problems we may have is the air bag in seat. Whether your car would communicate with the air bag in the F40 seat.

Ok I just measured my E89 seat rails and they match chanlon1's measurements. That's one box ticked.

Hopefully my measuring wasn’t wonky, and a coincidence 🤣

Im quite curious if this F40 seat swap would work as well, if anyone gets more info on this thread please do share it :D

Well if we can get the seats to work in john-e89 E89 then it should work in an E85

You would need to make a metal bracket for them to fit in an E85 though.

So are you up for doing the electrics Usel, paid of course, as I'll buy some seats asap.

I'd help you as much as I can!

What county do you live in?

Been looking at realoem and the seats in the F40 M135i are exactly the same as the seats in the M235i just in case that helps finding seats.

The F40 M135i seat back, the metal frame and the foam only, are used in the G29. The G29 has a different leather skin. The seat metal base is exclusive to the G29.

The mini clubman actually has exactly the same seats as the F40 135i as well but with a different skin and look awful, basically just cloth, least said the better about those.

Looking through car breakers this morning and look what I found:

So they do fit, the backs look quite tight.

Does anyone who reads this live near Sheffield so they can go test the seat fit for us :D

40 mins from me Usel....

Will the roof on a roadster go over the seat tops though as that's a coupe in the pic.... :?
