F10 M5 illuminated ZHP install guide with photos

am i the only one that likes to stock z4m gear knob length and weight .. :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed:

Sorry to bump this guys - I've just ordered one :thumbsup:

The question is, I'm happy to just stick with the OEM leather gaitor. Can I just pull my F10 gear knob off the supplied gaitor? Noted in Nina's post she's said this might be possible but just wanted to be 100%!

I can't see why they couldn't be separated, but I'm guessing you will have to cut the leather.

it looks like to me the silver ring is probably glued/holding the 2 pieces together. i love this upgrade but I'm not to good with working on this side of things, give me mechanics any day but this type of stuff i mess up! lol

Buy the modded ZHP then like I have, just plug and play. Only issue is not sure if the guy selling them on eBay has anymore :cry:

Shame you can't get he illuminated ZHP's anymore, but good job.

You can.....but expensive

I got an illuminated insert from E Bay and converted a OEM non illuminated ZHP - about £60 all in

Brief update on my research into this, I found a better description of the gaitor removal method;

Looks pretty simple to me!

Anyone else ordered and gave this a go recently? I've ordered mine, collect it on Monday. This is an amazing guide so hopefully it has everything I need to know! But anyone else who's done it, input would be great :thumbsup:

can you get inserts, or did you butcher another gear knob to remove - cant find any inserts at present on ebay.

So I'm now waiting 24 hours for the glue to set properly. The hardest part of this whole job was deciding what to do with the excess at the front, as you're left with around an inch of doubled over leather loop at the top as a big flap type thing. So I had to make a couple of slits and fold it on top of itself so I've got a few layers of leather where the arrow is pointing which is obviously thicker than the rest of the surround. My concern now is that this may not fit into the snug tight space, it's flattened as hard as possible but has anyone else who's done this managed to get away with that?
