Sorry to bump this guys - I've just ordered one 
The question is, I'm happy to just stick with the OEM leather gaitor. Can I just pull my F10 gear knob off the supplied gaitor? Noted in Nina's post she's said this might be possible but just wanted to be 100%!

I can't see why they couldn't be separated, but I'm guessing you will have to cut the leather.

Brief update on my research into this, I found a better description of the gaitor removal method;

Anyone done this on a non-M? I'm after wires to tap into for the illumination.
Anyone else ordered and gave this a go recently? I've ordered mine, collect it on Monday. This is an amazing guide so hopefully it has everything I need to know! But anyone else who's done it, input would be great
So I'm now waiting 24 hours for the glue to set properly. The hardest part of this whole job was deciding what to do with the excess at the front, as you're left with around an inch of doubled over leather loop at the top as a big flap type thing. So I had to make a couple of slits and fold it on top of itself so I've got a few layers of leather where the arrow is pointing which is obviously thicker than the rest of the surround. My concern now is that this may not fit into the snug tight space, it's flattened as hard as possible but has anyone else who's done this managed to get away with that?
