Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh The Sun's here :x

So I thinks to myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll give it a wash, the sun's been shining on it all morning it could do with a little TLC

So a quick rinse first

Hose out, first skoosh............................"Dull Thud" :?

What was that :|

Looks around the car :o The windscreen's cracked from top to bottom :?

In all me years of washing cars this is a first :(

My thoughts at looking at the screen, how good is a replacement going to be, has any one had a new screen? and are you happy with the results

I just want to cry

how :o were u washing with boiling water and dry ice !!! is it free on your insurance for windows??

After it happend, I touched the screen it was roasting, but like I said, nothing I've never done before?

Yep I have insurance, but it looks fiddley...................

I can't see this happening in this weather...screen must have been under stress due to fitment.

And its no biggie. Excess on your insurance but if you take it to the windscreen depot instead of getting a roadside jobbie (a) they do it better and (b) its easier to watch them. Plus a nice new squeaky clean bit of glass!

I had one fitted ages ago and it was trouble free. Chillax! :)

Why now, with the cold water, coincidence?

Thanks for the chill tip

Feel your pain, I had this happen a couple of years ago - was cleaning the car, and didn't see a small stonechip at the top (black band) - sunny day, and "crack" - right across the screen to the rear view mirror. Had to get the car windscreen replaced .... autowindscreens, did a good job and only on an excess payment, took about an hour.

A few windscreens have been replaced on the forum - from memory some were not fitted correctly

I would take pics of the seals, also the position of the rear view mirror before its swapped out

Boo :(

Same happened to me a year or so ago. Like others say, should be insurance, just have to pay the windscreen excess - probably £50-100.

Make sure the fitter transfers your tax disc - I had mine taken away on the old window and they had to bring it back the next day! You'd have thought that would be day 1 in windscreen replacement school.

If you are worried about damage (I was after a bad experience previously) - take some photos of the edges just in case. And recommend not watching if you are a nervous sort!

As I put the bucket of water down and wait till the weather cools down :o
Never heared of this happening before but am checking the tempature of my windscreen from now on.Hope this does`nt wreck your weekend.

Usually happens the other way round on winter mornings where owners run hot water down the screen to clear the ice. I do feel for you though :( Never a good thing - but get your insurance to sort it :) Takes about 30 minutes and its done :D

Thanks for the reassuring replys

IOk, I've spoke to the insurance company

If I take it to a fitter that comes highly recomended to me it will cost £80.00

If they arrange it it'll be £60.00

So! £80.00 it is :?

What a bummer, any idea when they can replace it, I know Auto windscreens are quoting 3 to 4 days most of the time for any work at all. At least you'll have a nice shiny piece of glass when it's all done. :)

Holy sh*t. Sorry to hear this. Amazing how hot the sun can make a flat windscreen and at this time of year with it almost overhead it can get very hot. As others have said I can only assume some stress in the green already and a quick change in temperature and a bit of contraction and it's all over. Hope it gets sorted OK

i lost my windscreen 25 mins after picking up my car. ..motorway on the way home.....1 st time ever a stone hit me....
only doing 50.....!
bit nervouse claiming the day but sorted in a week....
50 quid excess.....

I've got two small chips in my windscreen (not the type on the photo earlier!) - about 2mm max each. Any thoughts on what I should do?

I think the Z4 is prone to windscreen chips, mine is littered with the buggers
