Does anyone know if it is possible to get plain glass heated exterior mirrors ie without the last 30mm at a different angle to see blind spots. If so what the number is?

Out of interest why would you not want the blind spot mirror as its a god send to me with disc probs in my lower and upper back ( the joys of getting old ) :)

I only ever drive it top down and I always look over my shoulder before changing lane so I have no need for it. But i find it very confusing when reverse parking between cars or into a garage because I get a double image of what is behind me. If it were just on the drivers side it wouldn't be so bad.

Non standard mirrors will lower the value of the car. Next it'll EmmmFree mirrors on the Z4's!

Bloody chavs! :poke:

I replaced both mirror glass a few years ago as they fell out. If I remember correctly I also had the choice to get plain glass without the blind spot angle. They are attached by a sticky pad on to the back plate, and the heating element still works fine. You can probably order them from Halfords, I think they may even be the same size as the 1 series of that era.

I've got plain mirrors in my Zed. Plain in the sense they're ever so slightly convex in shape but don't offer a "last 30mm at a different angle". Or give a double image? :? Don't think I'd be a fan if mine were like this!

I will definitely look into your suggestion, I would have expected the Heating element not to work too good, but if you are saying it is ok it is worth a try. Can you remember how well the shape matches the mirror frame?

The line I refer to can be seen on this image from an aftermarket part. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Right-Dr...en:E85&hash=item25ca9fb39e:g:wuEAAOSwnHZYSYbx. The bit to the right of the line is set at a different angle to show cars in blind spot. The problem is when you reverse into a spot between two cars, the cars appear in differently in the main mirror and the blindspot mirror and I find it hellish confusing. There are two other Z4 owners at work, they are both the same and my wife's E91 is the same too. So was beginning to think it is a BMW thing! But thanks to Zeld4 I have just seen some on ebay that appear not to have the line, so will ask the seller to confirm.

Nice one!

Just be sure the heated element is in the correct place. I’ve seen some on eBay that are in a different position and this may be awkward/impossible to fit. I’m sure when I had my mirrors off the heated wiring cables are quite short in length.

It slots in absolutely perfectly and is incredibly easy to fit. I just cleaned up the back plate to remove all the dust. The original mirrors are attached with just a small glob of glue which is why they probably fell out.
The only problem I can see you having is removing the mirrors from the back plate. Also my back plate wasn’t in the best condition and I have still had absolutely no problem.
