exhausts

Im looking for an exhaust more than likely cat back. Ive narrowed it down to eisenmann or supersprint both around the same price does anyone have any useful info on them for me?

Im looking to get a deeper slightly louder note from the car not too raspy though. Ive tried listening to some on youtube but not found too much.

At the moment im swaying towards the eisenmann as i think it has a bit of a deeper sound but havent heard either in person so any feedback would be great. I dont want it so loud it pisses me off when on long drives and i use the car everyday.

I had a good look at exhausts earlier this year and was very tempted by Hayward and Scott who do a cat back system. Eventually I had one made by Longlife Exhausts in Leeds. Their first attempt was way too loud and I like loud! children would cry with fright as I drove past!

but their second attempt was fine for me as it's mainly a weekend car. It's loud when I floor the throttle -now I love tunnels but reasonably quiet when driving normally and as quiet as stock on the motorway. Better MPG as well! Performance sems as good or slightly better, all in all made up with it.

Can somebody give me an idiots guide to what the difference between cat back, straight thru, etc is?

I'd like to get a better exhaust system that looks similar (4 pipes rather than schitzer ovals) but give better noise, better breathing and
good performance.

cat back leaves the original cats in place and so is the most usual replacement. Delete the cats and it'll fail MOT etc. I deleted the small centre box and replaced the very large, very baffled and heavy rear boxes with straight through jobbies.

I might be too late for this thread but I did Supersprint. Originally had the x-pipe and straight thru mufflers but it was too loud for my taste so I returned the x-pipe. Sounds much better. Still a bit loud - but hey, I'm 57

i just picked up a Hamann exhaust (made by SS) ... its deep on low rpms but not too loud... i heard that eisenmann is the loudest exhaust you can buy for the z4 except for straight pipes or muffler deletes

I've been running the Hamann cat back, 4 pipe system on my X5 for the last 2 years. It's a truly awesome set up that rumbles at low speed and heavy throttle and is silent when cruising or at high speed.

I had a custom exhaust fabricated by longlife. It included 100cell race cats and a single straight through back box. Needless to say I failed noise testing at the first track day I attended! They then fitted twin rear straight through boxes as the Alpina has twin pipes from front to rear and I would describe the noise as bareable. I tested at 102db on a drive through at Silverstone which is within the limits. Best part is I get a nice flash of flame on overrun especially when the engines cold and injecting extra fuel. My neighbours hate me though. :wink:

Mine does it every time, even during gear changes. The occational flash of flame especially at night is the best part though!!

My exhaust spits and pops on over-run but I've never seem a flame Makes a great sound in the Mersey Tunnel though

I paid £960 for mine. The price included a pair of 100 cell cats and all the labour. Even when they had to convert it to twin rear silencers I didn't incur any further payment and I have a full lifetime guarantee. The best part is that it weighs a fraction of the original system.
