Guys, advice appreciated
On a tour of Ireland, having a whale of a time in the zed, then the above warning light comes on
Call to mechanic mate and he states if cars running ok and not gobbling fuel it's ok to drive
Car performance is spot on
Found a garage on my travels who checked the codes. It came up with 'catalytic converter'
He asked if it had had a long run.
Yes
Does it normally have short runs?
Yes
He reset the code and said probably Cat sensor having a hissy fit. Don't worry if it comes back on, sort out when you get home
20 miles down the road it's back on again
Car feels fine
Searched this site to death. Consensus seems to be the same - ok to drive
No fault code on mechanics reader just CC. Could this still point to lambda sensor?
2.0 engine on 08 plate with 30k miles
No obvious splits to any hoses
I filled up with fuel in UK, apparently petrol skimming is rife here (according to hotelier)
Please can you put my mind at rest so I can enjoy the rest of my hols

Hi Andy
What went wrong?
Can you give me any guidance
Was it ok to drive in the meantime?

If you do a search it is all documented, I was told okay to drive but the car will adjust all its settings to run over rich.

Ok thanks.
Don't think I've much choice really but to carry on. Only stopping in one place for a couple of nights. About 600 miles to go before I can get it home
Seems to be running fine at the moment and I'm averaging 44 mpg.

I've had the same problems. If you are averaging 44 mpg that could be the problem.
I found that when I drove it like a granny in the snow last winter,it always came on
Give it a good thrash to clear it's lungs out ,I average about 35 but at least the light stays off plus you have a bigger grin on your face :driving:
Mine is 2.0l 2006 30k.

Derby z4, thanks for the reply. That's interesting and along the lines of what the garage said albeit the other way round.
I'd done a 190 mile (mostly motorway) run to the ferry port before another 100 or so crawling around the country lanes. (Which is when the light came on)
Not much chance to open it up on the roads around here
However I have a long run down to the south tomorrow so will try to heed your advice

Would you believe it??
I ordered a D900 code reader (seemed to be the favorite on here) with the intention of re-setting when I returned home
600 miles and 5 days later the light has gone off :D

A further 2 days running around on holiday and a 250 mile run home and the light is still off :)

Result!-I hope it stays off for you.

No chance it's a 2.0i so it will be Code P0420. Anyway trading mine in tomorrow for a brand new Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe 25th Anniversary Limited Edition. :D
