Everybody says 19" are uncomfortable

Now you need to spend time studying different tyres :P if they are part worn cheapos they will not compare to new premium branded tyres in terms of comfort & ride quality so don't assume how your car feels is how all Zs on 19s feel .
There is a world of difference across the spectrum of tyre manufacturers

They're almost brand new Uniroyals - maybe they won't tell me much about comfort, but they will tell me if this size tyre will fit without fouling the arches.

From past experience they are about as compliant as you will find so doubtful you would find a brand that would improve on comfort from those .
Are they style 230 BBS twists by any chance

Ah, didn't see them advertised on this site.

I have the Uniroyal Rainsports on mine. They are comfortable and have great wet grip but are a bit soft on a sports car. I’ve recently swapped the rears to Goodyear F1s and it’s tightened the rear up a bit. It had added a bit more “harshness” but still very acceptable. I put harshness in quotes because that’s in comparison to the RSs which are a bit dull.

Sorry for hijacking the thread but do you find a lot of what feels like side ways movement from the rear of the car, especially when traveling over uneven road surfaces,I also have rainsports on all 4 corners

I only took them for a quick spin and they at least didn't feel uncomfortable, but as to whether I can feel any squirming, I'm yet to find out.

Nope, nothing like that. If you are getting the rear moving sideways on bumps, you probably need to get the alignment sorted. Either that or you have mismatched tyre pressures. Do you know what you have?

To the OP,.....

Have a look at this...

http://www.tuneruniversity.com/blog/2011/04/part-i-why-wheel-weight-slows-most-people-down/

And this...

http://www.tuneruniversity.com/blog/2011/04/wheel-tech-part-iii-wheel-diameters-effect-on-performance/

So, while 19’s might look the part on an E86 it’s likely they will blunt performance (a little) compared to 18’s (unless you are looking at expensive lightweight 19’s).... especially if you run a sidewall profile the same as on the 18’’

On this basis, how much do you really want 19’s as 18’s probably offer the best all round compromise in terms of looks, comfort and performance

Quite agree with you here True-Blue, and very pertinent links thank you for the validation.

34 sounds a little low on the rear. F34 R36 is more usual.

More common for an E89, which has recommended pressures that are higher than those of the E85/E86.

Most people also seem to drop a few PSI after switching from runflats. 32psi all round isn’t uncommon; this is still higher than the factory pressures for the Z4M (30/32).

If the rear is deflecting sideways and the alignment is ok, then it could be that your rear trailing arm bushes are worn. A garage can check their deflection for you - visual inspection often won’t show much.
