Evergreen tyres

The thing is...lets say I am a tyre boffin (which I'm not) and i set up on my own with a revolutionary manufacturing process which makes my tyres the best in the business. With diddly squat in marketing budget, PR etc. I will remain an unknown, unheard of manufacturer, making, in the words of some on here, shite tyres. It doesn't mean they are, it just means that the world hasn't found out how great they are yet. They could be miles better than the established Michelins/Goodyears and all the others who have massive budgets to plaster race tracks with their adverts. I guess what I am saying is don't be a sheep - try things out yourself and make your own judgements. If you like something it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks provided it suits your needs.

I totally agree. If Vreds didn't have the bizarre (cool???) tread pattern which is their USP, then I expect that they'd be considered alongside the likes of the LingLong and Banzai makes

I've read many comments on here stating that the OEM Contis are rubbish from many who've probably never actually driven them at anywhere near their limits. I have actually driven them (and Falken 452s) at their limits and IMHO, for road tyres they are very good indeed and will exceed anything than you really need on public roads. I know that there are other tyres which can exceed the lateral grip of the likes of Contis, but unless your car sees much track action they are overkill. Having said this, I'm desperate to try Michelin PSSs to see if they do justify the hype.

You'd make an awful businessman

But he makes a lot of sense
I'm always amazed when you read tyre reviews how peoples opinions vary so much so the suggestion by og to make your own judgement is, I feel, a sound one.
People want different things from different tyres. If a review says the tyre is excellent except it only lasts 15,000 miles I would consider it because that is 5 years motoring to me in the Zed. :driving:

Of course I agree.

Ultimately you need to make your own mind up. You can only make your own mind up based on the tyres you experience. And the choice of tyre you experience is usually one made through a comprehensive evaluation of the available information (reviews, forums etc.).

My Z still has the OEM contis, they do understeer slightly, but then I have yet to try Vreds (my most likely next choice) or PSS (next choice if I'm flush) to see if the hype is true. Maybe following the hype makes me a sheep, but I'm not about to risk my own health and my car's pristine condition on the vague hope of finding an unknown treasure. It's a fairly safe assumption that the vast majority of cheap tyres available are cheap for a reason.

My :poke: at OG was purely at the fact that he has created the world's best tyre and not allowed for marketing/ PR etc.....awful business sense  (I'd like it be known I agree with his general sentiment)

Try setting up the geometry with zero toe at that front to correct that.

His tyres are over six years old, they have possibly fossilised by now :D

Watching the Tour de France on C4 a few years ago, it was revealed that the best cycle tyres are 7 years old and have been kept in dark cellars to "mature". Not a lot of people know that...

That was written by a bloke who drank the case of wine in the cellar next to the tyres

Rear tyres are new(ish) but the fronts are pretty much reaching the end of their life.

I'll be looking to get my car hunter aligned soon anyway, so might change the tyres and remove any toe in at the same time.

Update ! Still got the Evergreens on the front , they are behaving well ie no issues to report , obviously they haven't done many miles yet but have driven in some horrible wet conditions as well as dry and no dramatic heading toward trees etc ! Ok I'm mad trying tyres that are not mainstream but was not happy to fit contis after cracking issues .

Those are the tubular kind that are stuck to the rim. They hang them up to mature like pheasants. Not sure this traditional maturing applies to wire on cycle tyres or car tyres. :?

I never said that i thought the oem contisports were in the same league as the pirelli's, i just said that I have found no problems with them , i do think though that it is a pretty safe bet that they are better all round tyres than the evergreens. as a previous post er said, I will if i am flush go for the pirellis, or something a bit cheaper but a recognised brand if not so flush, I would not experiment on an untried obscure make,

In my admittedly limited experience - only had one set and will never have them again - you will struggle to find worse than Pirelli.

That said.... I had a matching set of Sport contact 3's on my M when i bought it,cracked between the tread blocks and noisy as hell on the road...

Pirelli P zero's were awful on my 911,they would lose grip at the slightest hint of a sideways movement.

Vred Giugario's are the best all round tyre i have ever had...

I would never call anyone for putting a cheaper tyre on there car unless i had particular experience of that specific brand myself(and they were crap),otherwise how could anyone take your opinion even half seriously..
