Ever decreasing Z4M prices

If your worries about an extra £200 for road tax an M car isn't for you sorry.
If the M car has a V8/V10 in it then fair play, but for 6 cylinders the price is pushing it a bit imho.

the answer is in your question Lee :poke: pretty sure ferrari know a thing or two about engineering performance vehicles 8)
not just ferrari but other top performance cars ( F1 as well) are autos .
as for the debate / autos for oldies V manuals for youngies :tumbleweed: its played out . ive had enough of both in 26years motoring to know what suits me & in the right car+engine the autos are more than a match for the manual
Autos are more effective than manuals & as you say Ferrari know what they are doing, but I am old school & I just enjoy being involved in the experience & autos/twin clutches just don't do it for me.

My bro in law has a DCT in his M3 & don't get me wrong the engine is sublime but its still a case of put your foot down & hold on, it just doesn't float my boat, if I owned a M3 I would invest in the manual box even if it is a lot slower.

The issues isn't the extra £200, its more to do with the resentment about having to pay for it, when I might only do 3k a year.
The best car decision I have ever made is swapping the Z4MC to a CSL, I was trying to sell my car for about 20k at the time, without much luck it has to be said. One of the reasons was the ridiculous road tax pricing system, plus I figure the CSL would depreciate less. I was right, 18 months down the line I could buy decent Z4MC and bank about 6k.
Now the CSL is being sold and I'm debating whether to buy another Z4MC again, lookto" exdos up" the suspension if I did buy one or just buy 997 C2S manual(with lower road tax btw). Also worth noting the 977C2S has lost about 3k in last 18 months.
Don't mean to cheese off Z4MC owners, just my thoughts and observations .

I do resent the tax on the zed as it mainly stays in the garage all week, so I suppose it makes it an expensive indulgement, I didn't realise until a little while back that some Z4m's were registered pre expensive tax, it's just I have owned two lovely V8's that used to cost me half in tax, you are better buying old cars I think!

Regardless if you want a newer car than march 06 that is thirsty then your going to have to suck it up. It's been the same for the last 6 years, Simple. £40 a month is not a deal breaker it's just the way it is, you can't get round it with the Z4M apart from extreamly early roadsters your stuck with it. Can't wrap your mind around £200 don't buy it.

Or do what was intended and drive it...

I think the depreciation/cost of ownership is excellent considering the performance. My 123d cost more overall due to shocking depreciation.

btw if I want to moan about it, I will. Simples

Compared to a CSL then yes Z4MC prices will appear to be in freefall but thats not a true comparison as CSL prices seem to be going up so they'd make any normal car look like it was in steep decline. I've had mine for nearly 3 years now and the depreciation curve on it has been pretty standard really.

I think as Tom says the £470 is an issue for some but most people who buy a Z4MC buy one because they want one specifically. Road Tax is just part of the ownership equation.

Well buy a 911, its a fantastic car. Theres not much difference in terms of performance, apart from the cost of buying one is double. My dads was twice the price yet the performance is pretty much indistinguishable on the road. Obviously both drive completely differently but neither will pull away.

Which is why the Z4Mc makes such an attractive package. Rare, Cheap and goes like stink.

Your right Tom, I haven't really got a massive issue with the cost as I will pay it regardless just to listen to the sweet engine, I suppose it's just something for me to moan about!! :)

I would love to have it as my daily I would just struggle squeezing my dog, daughter & mrs in it! Plus if I am in the zed on my own I can drive like a tool & not worry as much, if I used it everyday I would have more than the tax cost to worry about the computer is saying 23.9 mpg! I would be shells best friend! :)

I don't drink, I don't smoke. Like with those two, any hobby will be taxed heavily and I just have chosen the car one to spend my tax on.

Well obviously no one wants to pay the tax on anything, and it is a lot but the thing is there is no way around it for the Z4M if you want an M3 then lots of choice. But I like the fact it has two seats, different and I never ever see another one, its different and its worth it.

I dont use mine as a daily as I use the mini for that, but still managed to rack up 7k this year because I love driving it :driving: . And although its a garage queen im not afraid of putting the milage on, if I had the car 2 years which I intend to and only did 6k and loose twice its value I think I would be completely gutted. So I take it out any chance I get and get my monies worth... although you have to put more money into driving it lol!

Cars are always a money pit you will never make money unless your into classics or in for the long haul with a potential classic and not drive it at all so its pristine. Lifes too short for that if you ask me, buy it, use it, enjoy it and move on.

Spot on PVR! :) I bet you like to smoke the Zeds tyres though ever now & again! :driving:

Now, a diesel 3.0 tri-turbo engine of a BMW F10 M550d laughs out at the Z4M and requires only half of the fuel you'd need to feed the S54 with (have I mentioned it's a diesel?)....

Sorry, but if you think that, then you missed the appeal of the M to begin with.

Add a tonne of weight, you cant throw a barge around the same way you can a Z4M. Completely different appeal.

Cars are a money pit, we have lost a fortune on them over the years & will continue to do so but if its your interest then its worth it personally, the TT will go next march & bought that brand new in July this year so god knows how hard that will hurt us but neither of us like it & as you say life's too short to drive around in something not up to the job.

I lost the same in depreciation in 17 months on the X5 as I did in six years on the TVR so some cars work out a better investment than others, bottom line is cars rarely make financial sense.

Exactly were all mad.

There are ways like buying demos or cars that have taken the initial big hit depreciation 12-18 months. But it works the other way buy cheap cars and they will sell cheap too. Buy good ones and they should value a little higher. Although with cars like Z4Ms its not worth chopping it in as trade as theres more interest in the private market. They arent getting any younger so there will only be deals to be had. But it will get to the point where it costs more to run and keep on the road than its worth and there will be a lot of rough cars and we are seeing a lot. Especially at the bottom of the market. £15k is still the good car territory.

But at the same time, if you have the money buy what you want. I would love to buy a brand new one specced up to exactly how I want but atm I cant do that, so quite happy with the search. Half the fun with frustration then finally getting what you want :D

Plus if you bought a brand new one like an M3 at £65k fully loaded then in 3 years get offered £27k its a hard pill to swallow...

We must be mad Tom as you say! Wouldn't we be better travelling around in a £500 snotter & investing into property surely that is the way forward!! :)

It must be heartbreaking if you had bought an M3 as your suggestion & you would surely cry your eyes out at trade in time, but it also makes the used market very appealing...going to pistonheads classifieds for a browse, you have got me thinking! :D

Not sure I agree ,as I mentioned earlier, 977's have dropped about 3k, while Z4MC's have dropped about 6k in the same period. These are cars of similar age, not something which is newer and bound to drop more because its at the start of its depreciation curve. Its not until you try and sell or trade do you realise your car isn't worth as much as you think, regardless of mileage or condition.
Wonder if any of current sellers on this forum care to comment, it was hard enough to sell the csl, supposedly an easy sale. When I first advertised the M3 forum users said it was too cheap and it will sell easily, it wasn't the case and I had to reduce the price before I could get somebody to even view it, a CSL with average mileage is definitely not going up in value I can assure you.
