Eventuri VAI Carbon Intake Kit for the Z4M details

I can completely understand the scepticism when it comes to intakes as we have all been fed plenty of "hype" over the years by numerous companies with their generic cone filter designs promising ludicrous gains which have never been held up. In fact the E46 M3 community have tried various intakes only to go back to the original airbox as they experienced reductions in performance and driveability by using aftermarket intakes (except for the CSL style airbox).

I'd love to do a 3 way test - just need to find a Z4M and a Gruppe M!

I'll do it. If it's a 'free' experiment of course :P

please post some decent vids up though with the sound as I haven't heard any decent videos as yet, and I would be interested!

This is my effort - I'll let you decide if it's decent or not! Just a few short clips from a drive a few weeks ago. It's just rough GoPro footage. I've done no real editing on it.

It does sound very underwhelming on camera audio

Wait until you have it fitted!

Have to admit, even from rubbish videos on my iPhone, the GruppeM does sound louder on mine than that... and by louder I mean more harsh.

Yah I'm slightly concerned by this but shall see how it pans out. I have no real life reference to make to a GruppeM so I'll either be happy or not with the Eventuri on it's own merit. Keeping in mind that it's a considerably cheaper product. I still can't find anywhere in the UK that is selling the GruppeM, the first 5-6 links shoot off to USD$$ websites and I fast become bored of that game.

I attempted and failed miserably at taking a tunnel video of my Gruppe-M and Rogue Diablos at the weekend.

My nice new external stereo mic just produced lots of clicks and no intake/exhaust noise. I swapped to the internal one and couldn't hear anything over the wind noise :headbang:

Sounded awesome in the 15 or so runs through the tunnels near Conway (1 tiny one and 2 longer ones) - but to my ear the exhaust drowns out the Gruppe-M about 95% of the time.

I can't comment on a Gruppe M because I've never heard one in the flesh. However you really won't be disappointed with the noise. If you can't tell how much different this sounds to stock then you never will! It sounds way more aggressive in this video than stock. Don't forget this is using a GoPro in a plastic case mounted at the top of my windscreen with no external mic. Imagine this sound amplified many times and that's what real life will be like.

There is the added benefit of a much smoother throttle and sharper throttle response, plus the potential additional horsepower too. I don't know whether the Gruppe M has similar benefits or not?

If I get a chance I'll film a drive-by too. It might give you a better idea.

Yeh to echo what OG has said, the video gives you an overview of the tone of the engine, but in real life it sounds a lot more aggressive and perhaps even intrusive (in the nicest possible way).

Would you prefer more induction noise over exhaust mmm-five? I think I prefer exhaust (Remus boxes sound great to my ear) over induction, but will admit to being at Spa a few years back and the CSL's induction growl was impressive!

I definitely prefer more induction noise, but not at the expense of reducing the exhaust sound. On full throttle the exhaust drowns everything out, but on medium throttle you catch aural glimpses of the intake howl - just not enough of them. Won't take the intake off as I think it's probably balancing the volume a bit, and probably sounds a lot different depending on whether you're a spectator or a driver - as it always sound great when the MOT tester or servicing garage starts it up and drives away.

I had a very basic RamAir filter on my old Corrado VR6 and it sounded awesome - even with a full Milltek exhaust system (which thinking back was nowhere near as loud as the Diablos).

I'd love to get a CSL box & Alpha-N, or possibly the carbon one shown earlier - but if I'm going to save for anything that expensive (after my suspension & brakes) then it will be for a supercharger...assuming the engine has not gone pop by then :P

I'm totally with you on this, I'm always amazed how good it sounds from outside the car!

Suopercharging, now that's a proper mod! 8)

It is, but how mad would you have to be to risk supercharging a 150k mile S54 engine - or spending more on a mod than the car would be worth

Crazy to the point you don't mind if I goes pop I guess! :o I'm sure whoever fits it would compression test etc to make sure the engine can handle it... A friend had a supercharged E46 M3 for a while which had over 100k on it, had no problems with it and I can testify that it ate up my Z4MC from about 90/100mph onwards!

Been messing with the GoPro again. This time front mounted on the bumper using suction cup.
