Engine swap

Hi guys, so my 2.2 2005 has racked up nearly 180k miles and looking to do an engine swap. But I wanna get hold of the fastest engine for it. Any suggestions? Also would I have to upgrade the gearbox and manifold or could I get away with a straight swap?

Well the S54 is the most powerful engine, BUT....and I promise I’m not being patronising, if you have so little idea of what’s involved in an engine swap you’re best selling your car and buying something that gives you what your after. Your wallet and sanity will be very grateful.

It looks like with a bit of work you can slip a V10 in there.

Or a 2JZ

I would take either TBH.

I was browsing for an s54 but if that sounds like a lot of work a handful of money then I better not. I just wanna but something that’s gonna s**t me up a little. I was thinking of the 3.0 si engine. Would that be much of a difference?

A v10 or a 2jz??? Very tempting. I’m going for tab c Nesbit money not trump money. They look sick.

Sell your current car and buy a 3.0 SE. Or...

Keep it, refresh all the suspension, brakes, tyres, buy some tuition and have plenty left for lots of unleaded.

If you had a mint, super low mileage 2.2 I could just about see the appeal of an engine swap, but £4K could buy you a decent early 3.0, very decent if you’re patient and bide your time...

Even if you only got £1k for the 180k 2.2 that puts you at £5k which could get you a cracking pre-facelift 3.0

No amount of ‘Man Maths’ is going to make keeping and modding the current car a logical option :driving:

Personally as others have suggested I think the easiest - and possibly cheapest - option would just be to sell your car and buy a 3.0i.

I wouldn't be surprised if the gearbox and/or diff had different ratios to a 2.2i, but the 3 litre front brakes are definitely bigger.

Good luck though whatever route you decide to go.

Also E85 2.2i and 2.5i have 5 speed gearboxes and the 3.0i has 6 speed. I believe the propshaft and diff are also different :(
Just sell your Z4 and buy a 3.0i

Sell yours and buy Johnr32’s and you’re instantly into a 3.0 without the hassle of swapping. No brainier surely.

Modified cars can be tricky to sell and with nearly 200k miles, even with other parts swapped it will be worth little more than it is now.

Sell & buy is the answer, but if you go crazy do post about the conversion, I can't recall anybody actually doing it before. :)
