Engine swap hypothetical.

If you were able to throw a lot of money at our car: and swap the engine what would you go with?

My first choice would be the BMW 535D diesel, I think its a N57... but our 220lb-ft of torque goes to 413lb-ft. With better eco. :driving:

I've also day dreamed about the chevy's LS3 engine and toyota's 2JZ...

Ive seen some photos where people have swapped in dodge viper engines, and other large engines. I'm impressed!

Can you fit the McLaren P1 engine/drivetrain into a Z4?

Thats outside the box! I bet it would fit in a coupe....
If we're staying within the 'loose' boundaries of credibility, then it'd have to be the latest M3/M4/M5/M6 engine.

But then you're changing the characteristics of the Z4, so might as well buy a different car.

Thats a fair point. I have toyed with the idea quite a bit of a V8 swap. But the car should have a straight 6!! and i am even changing my mind possibly about FI! as i think NA engines should (just my thinking at the moment)

Anything will fit with enough money. We've seen Lambo drivetrain in a Fiat 500!!

I do like the BMW V10 conversion, but depends on what you want the car to do. Heavy tourer with oodles of power or light track car.

I think the Z4C suits the straight 6 so well, sounds pretty boring but I'd like to do something a bit unique with the MCoupe engine, rather than swap it.

That said.... S85B50 v10 engine.... 8) 8) 8)

Ls all day long , there's a couple of z3m s had it done and countless Mazda rx7 s , relatively small , powerful and light , a z4 would probably handle better with one , mounted further back due to it being shorter , it would . sound good as well , they always do .
The sensors attached to the rest of the car would be a different matter , I read about a v10 conversion ages ago and that was the main problem , the company that did it commented that you would think the engine was from a different manufacturer !

LS is the best block, however i would stick close to BMW as it makes it feel more like what could've been if bmw did it.
that V10 converversion you read about, is that the Hornisse from Mannhart ?

I can't remember to be honest , it was in an issue of evo magazine years ago , one of the driven section at the front . It was one of the major German tuning houses , hartge maybe , it really was years ago though .

i know schnitzer did a v8 swap and hartge doing a turbo engine (an a v8 ?? ).

the one i know as done on the base of a z4m, by mannhart racing, also german ( those guys swap everything, i saw an E46 with that V10 irl by them) it was black had many schnitzer parts on it. i try to follow every crazy Z4 project there is, that's why i'm asking :)

It was probably 6 to 8 years ago , you may find it if you search evo archives , if I ever come across it I'll forward the details on :D

I'd rather have the old lump from the F1 in there. No probs with spare parts for that either, just keep the original.
