E89 N20- engine swap

Hi all

I’m looking at a new project car- the worst case scenario is that the n20 2.0 engine is toast

I’m happy with an engine swap- what’s peoples experience of this?

Assume the new engine will need coding etc to the car?

Any insights?

I’ve no experience on this..but it’s a lighter, smaller engine in a big engine bay in the E89 so shouldn’t be difficult to do..

Easy option is to swap the DME across to avoid CAS issues..

Be aware there are euro 5 and euro 6 versions.. most e89s were euro 5….cost me a lot of grief… :tumbleweed: :headbang: :rofl:

I would have thought a like for like engine wouldn't need coding.

The VIN number in the CAS and DME have to match othewise no start..

Each model has a differemt procedure, in some cases you need bench level tools..
