Engine strut brace?

Ever reverse wirelocked something when you were training Woots? The training instructors just love to point it out after your painstaking twiddling with the spinning pliers :oops: :rofl:

I'm tempted now. No wire locking wire though, just a pair of locking pliers that I've not used in 20 some years!

Thinking about fitting mine also, but pondering on the nut question. 5yrs of BA engineering training is screaming at me to get new nuts if they're Nylock. I have to say I didn't notice when I looked at them yesterday. In fact 5yrs of BA engineering training is telling me to wire lock them, but that's a different game altogether!

The nuts that come with the strut brace are taller than those on the strut tower, and they recess into the brace itself.

I thought aircraft engineers reused Nylock nuts in non-critical applications since the bolt threads do not actually cut threads into the nylon bush so shouldn't be harmed by the first use.

Haven't put pics on here for a while , photobucket have changed their formats , managed to get them on here now. Great fun taking tvr owners out again and riding in their cars , the blue tamora apparently spits flames when warmed up and crackles/pops beautifully ! Note to self must get a bigger shed to fit a Tamora in.
 
LOL at all the back to front strut braces !!! This has got to be the easiest possible part to install... WTF is going on!! lol

I got the garage to get it and put it on , will have to sort this !

According the instructions i have the e90 gets fitted backwards, while the z4 is forwards... Prob explains why people fit this the wrong way as you need to go to the second page for the z4 fitment :roll:

doesnt say much for the bmw specialist you was talking about..... as i think i remember you saying he ordered and fitted it!!! dont use him again..... if he cant fit a bloody SB, hes friggin useless.

lol yes i have :oops:

the worst was when we were on the old mills trainers, and my wirelocking wasnt as tight as id hoped, so i thought id pull a fast one and slightttllyyy loosen off one of the connectors to tighten it up....along came the instructor who was big and bold, been in for all of time, came along, grabbed a spanner and grolleyed it up proper tight, then showed me how he could fit his finger between the wire and the bolt it was meant to be wrapped around :oops:
luckily i learnt from this, and now i get the scrotes beneath me to do it and i go along with my finger and pick faults with there work :lol: :lol:
the POWWWEEERRR :evil:

rolls royce locking pliers are gods gift....

In the great scheme of things fitting this brace isn't going to make any difference to handling anyway its just bling !

Have you ever driven a car with a strutbrace? If so, what were your findings?

Yes thanks. My findings were that they are useful if you track your car and pointless if you don't. No doubt you tell me you've produced a graph that shows your trip to Sainsburys was 0.1 seconds quicker as a consequence of fitting yours?

Currently making sure there's no flex between my Cotswold stone floor and gable end wall. My house handles much better for it :)

Took a look to see if it will fit over the intake on my car. It's going to be close and I'm going to need to see how much the engine moves on acceleration and which direction. It might be a for sale item after Xmas :cry:
