Engine strut brace?

As pointed out today, my induction system sits quite a bit higher than most. I'm wondering if Mr Strut Brace is going to fit. If not it'll be on the For Sale thread next week!

I got the Dinan brace. Very difficult to measure the difference of having it but as beedub says hardly doing any harm.

Flex is something i never thought to much about until i fitted a new front wing on my girlfirends polo. Bear with me....

They are a bolt on item and after a few miles the car started to creak, especially when in the wet. The short version is that i realised it was the wing rubbing on the bonnet and it just needed adgusting. But it highlighted just how much everything moves around that you just wouldnt have thought does. I know its only a Polo but all cars panels and parts move quite a bit.

Conclusion - Bracing is great :thumbsup: .

From what it is surpossed to do and how it works. I would of thought any sort of movement on the brace itself defeats the object of it

Depends on the movement surely. The towers certainly cant move toward or away from each other. I bet theres already a thread about this. :roll: :D
 
The so-called "hinged" type of strut brace should have the bolt through the "hinge" sufficiently tightened so that all the parts of the hinge are compressed against each other and provide no movement. It's exactly the same as the way the trailing arm bushes are installed.

That makes sense

Having never seen one only pictures I assumed the hinge was left lose


Why would you want a hinge anyway? Especially as your only going to tighten it up

I have a Wiechers-sport brace
It makes a difference in driving, but not that much of a difference as it makes in an FWD car
But makes the corner entry better (In FWD it improved 1st and 2nd stage of cornering)

PS. I'm willing to paint those oem struts red, but I never had a strong motivation to do it..

I will be attempting to make something similar to the Alutec strut brace. If it turns out successfully and if people want them I could make a few more. It has been discussed on another thread. I think you want one if all is good right Stuart?
 
You can definitely notice a difference with the brace. The front-end is more tied down over rough roads at normal speeds and when pushing on it makes the front more direct.
BMW one is best in my view, its non hinged, performs well, its one of the cheapest and is a factory BMW part. Win-win!

Just thought I would stick a piccie of mine up although it does look a little plain Jane in comparision to some of the sexy ones posted on this thread! :)
