It takes a lot of the flex out of the strut towers when cornering

If you imagine going round a hard right hand bend, most of the cars weight is distributed to the outside (left) wheels

With a strutbrace linking both of the towers together the towers have increased in strength

Reading this with great interest , can't wait to get mine on when it arrives , its taking ages , good to hear it tightens up the front !

Great stuff! :thumbsup: they do look good, a nice addition I think & they serve a good purpose too as I have learned. :D
 
now.... weve been having some cracked suspension top mount points so clearly their IS flex here, will the SB make a huge difference maybe, maybe not, BUT i will say for me, its doing no harm being their.... especially with my very stiff setup.
 
I'm the first to admit I'm no expert on this but I'm sure I read somewhere that fitting the strutbrace puts more strain on the strut towers because they can't flex?

If they were that beneficial would they not have been standard?

Feel free to shoot my suggestion down in flames!

Good point though ! mc is a stiff car , will ask when I go back down to Daventry next week to get said brace fitted - when I get the phone call !!
 
we talking amount tiny amounts of flex here, i'll be honest, when i read reviews like "tighten" the front end up"???? i have no idea whats meant.... its definitely NOT hurting however and its a a proper functional piece as its a bolt down design, i.e not the useless sliding type, which really are cosmetic ;-)

I wouldn't of thought that was true, if anything it spreads the load thats on one tower across the two of them

There are lots of things that could be fitted as standard but it all comes down to cost

Under 80% of driving conditions most people would not notice a difference

It just when your hammering it around corners, a roundabout and on a track

The sliding ones and the ones with the pivot have no use imo

I like the ACS strut brace on my coupe, although I can't quantify how much of a difference it makes as it was on the car when I bought it. Lucky really as I believe they are silly price like most Schnitzer stuff seems to be. Apologies, but the pic seems every so slightly fuzzy.

Your pic is perfect ! Looks great , when I get mine I will post a pic as well , wonder how many different versions of the strut brace there are and difference in price ? It looks very very clean under that bonnet IMHO.
 
If you do a Google search, you can find information which explains how a strutbrace works.

I have the StrongStrut strutbrace, which I think is one of the strongest designs and here's a photo of it on my Z4MC.

By far the best brace for the z4m Strut tops is....

The Re Race brace, One piece, diagonal cross sections, and to add the final nail in coffin... its connects back to the 2 diagonal firewall braces to make one giant solid triangle..... this makes all of the others, look turd.

I'm not so sure that I agree with you on this. You still have triangulation if the two OEM diagonal braces are not connected into one attachment point on each suspension tower, with the advantage that FOUR bolts are retaining the braces on each tower and not just 3 as shown in the Re Race brace. IMO this places less strain on the bolts retaining the dampers, which don't have a particularly high shear strength.
