Engine power drops off at 6500 rpm, that normal?

Could have been mapped/coded to have a higher RPM?
yes you can raise the rpm redline on manual but not autos with a ECU remap one of the benefits having manual

All Z4M's are manuals

You can raise the redline in SMG cars too don't know about autos but the OP's car is a manual which is why I answered the question
ok it wasnt specific to a S54 engine but i just commented because ive remaped quite a few manual bmw's before and know the rpm is higher after compared with a auto which can't raise the rpm was more my point....anyway

Surely the redline would only change if you programmed it that way - just 'remapping' the car won't automatically raise the limit.

Not sure I'd want to raise the limit anyway :o

Of course it raises the rev limit go and speak with any tuner like BW chiptune. Auto has torque converter so you cant raise the rpm due to gearbox but you can programme the ecu to csl software which uses the rev match function.

A remap does not necessarily mean the rev limit is raised, it is an option that you are given when talking to your remapper.
If you're confused go and ask Evolve or bw chiptune.
I have a remap, I chose to keep the standard limit. I could have chosen to raise it.

I've remaped 3 petrol manual bmw' so far each one the rpm was raised not by me asking its part of the map. If you put the same map on an auto the ecu on the gearbox will limit the rpm due to the torque converter/engine spped/actaul road speed. Which is why there different to test on a dyno to a manual using the best 1;1 ratio gear normally 4th gear. Go and speak to Jason then at BW chiptune ask about the aggressive remaps he sells. Even when i had a 3.0 Z4 with M54 engine we just copied the E46 ZHP fiile which had different max rpm. Have you remaped petrol cars before or not?
