Engine Light on - Z4M

Morning.
My engine light has been on for about a week, orange colour. Symptons when stationary are a rough idle.
When driving at low speed and a light throttle, there is sometimes a hestitatation on throttle pick up and some engine surging, car seems to miss a beat then picks up.

Less noticeable at cruising speed. Earlier the orange light came on about a month ago, I hoped it was just bad fuel. Symptons the same as now but the light went out by itself a few days later and driveability improved.

Will be heading to the dealers next week, just wondered is there anything I can check out myself or fix,such as cleaning sensors?

i stick my cash on it being a faulty coil pack which you can self diagnose, but best left to the dealers if its still under warranty?

Definitely not worth trying to fix yourself - either a coil or more likely i think an O2 sensor.

Faulty 'Coil on Plugs' (COP) are not normally an issue on the S54 engine. S54's DO have a higher than average issue with faulty O2 sensors.

Problem turned out to be both a coil & an O2 sensor, pre CAT. Car was in for nearly a week as they wired the sensor up incorrectly which started throwing out more error codes. Yikes! I had visions that everything electronic on the car would be changed and charged, before final identification of the problem.

Got a few other minor things sorted such as brake fluid changed, wipers, bill was £740. (discounted by £100 due to hassle). Think I might start going to a non BMW dealership for servicing work in future, the amount they charged for diagnosis, recoding etc just feels as though they are in right up to the elbow.

Out of interest, I have noticed the driver side wiper has a plastic trim on it, the passenger side does not. Would this be normal I can't recall prior to leaving it in a difference between either wiper.

Yeah. whipers are always different as one will have the wind catch - the other won't.

One word re Indy work, some swear by them but I see as many horror stories about never ending problems and no method of claiming against them. If you know a good one, that is of course different - but just getting one from the yellow pages .. :thumbsdown:
