I am a fan of ACF50 after a tip from Z4M-2006 which i guess is a similar product to your 303 Nick ?

spray on pretty much everything direct & brush off with


No stickiness after drying so doesn't attract dust or crap

Simple, it's not rocket science under there, not sure dedicated products are required.

If it's filthy a steam cleaner works wonders and the water left by the steam cleaner is so hot it evaporates almost immediately

- engine cold
- a once-over with the steam to remove the worst of the crud
- follow with a spray of something like BH Surfex HD at about 10:1 dilution with distilled water
- leave to dwell for 10 mins or so
- a second going over with steam
- leave a few mins for the water to evaporate
- finish with your choice of dressing

Thanks for the replies Swiftly and Terryvision. Forgive my naivety - I've never thought of detailing an engine compartment before. Never had a car before that I thought would require it... Just goes to show what getting a Z4 does for you...

Normally just washed with soapy water, dried then dressed with AG Vynil & Rubber spray dressing. I Like the reviews of Aerospace 303 and wonder whether the box of wipes would be a better alternative (and cheaper by the sound of it). Anyone ever used them?

Well i'll attempt a clean tomorrow evening i think. Will do pre-post photos, i'm going to go with old faithful APC, soapy water + brushes

Purely warm water and a verrrry light soapy spray, took 30 mins (dinner appeared).

Plan on going over it again now most of the dirt is gone and potentially using some sort of plastics sealant, maybe at the weekend

I think i came to the conclusion this area of most cars just never gets touched, so ANY input is a huge improvement, whether you use warm water or G-tech Aero Sealant Citrus XXX 101 Super Iron Microfibre Spray*.


*Probably doesn't exist, but if it does, i'll try it.

i use a degreaser spray and a brush then rinse off, i clean the plastics with a trim cleaner but in the end just painted the plastics black. so easy to clean now and just wipe over when i wash the car.

Nice and clean, but the trim is a bit shiny for me....looks too aftermarket imo

Always wondered why people advise using foil to cover the alternator. Is there a specific reason why you would use it instead of a waterproof plastic bag.

Might just be me, but I see it being really rubbish at keeping something dry and the non-electrician in me sees potential conductivity between alternator and human body
