Engine Bay Detailing

Not so sure about the pressure washer myself

Cover up the alternator, but other than that shouldn't be any issues.

It's a pump action sprayer rather than pressure washer so less powerful than a hose. Where is the alternator ?

Answered my own question

Ok, lets have a pic of the real thing then so we can all shame you … ;)

I would do but after todays effort the 'after' pictures were worse than the 'before'

Maybe using the wrong brush and not having powerful enough water to rinse, but all in all a bit of a waste of time and effort

Years ago I sprayed gunk over the engine bay of my Saab turbo then gave it a gentle soapy water wash down. The engine bay was fine but the foam bonnet liner was hanging in festoonsI
The vaporised spray of Gunk had reacted with it - how was I to know !

Had another go at detailing the engine bay today, was better than last time but still not overly impressed. The degreaser did it's job ok but the Aerospace 303 wasn't great, thought it would be a mist spray that would settle, but it seems to need rubbing in and then can be a bit patchy? Any help for a newbie appreciated... P.S. Must remember to remove the plastic bag before starting the engine :o

I don't do the whole engine in one go as you do have to wipe it as it will be patchy if you don't.

If you do go to Hove, drop in and I can show you using my AG how to do a small bit that does not stain.

Cheers PVR, I will be in Hove from next week (just booked for a night on Tuesday) will give you a shout to see if there is a time when we are both free. How far are you from there?

Exit before Gatwick on the M23 coming from Hove. Less than 5 mins from that junction.

Didn't realise you were that far away, might pop in on the way home one night then, be good to break up the journey

Classic damp engine cause. Run the car for a little while to help dry it. 303 should be spray and leave, with minimal wipe downs (mainly areas where it collects as a pool of liquid).

You don't need much either. As an example of exactly the same process and dressing product;

Cheers JAD  I tried rubbing it in straight away through fear of leaving a horrible white residue that I couldn't shift

Do any of you do any underside detailing?
I mean I spend a fair amount of time under my car  so I want that to be also in at least good technical and representative order.

Most pictures of UK cars I see are in (to me) pretty bad state, probably due to that the UK has even more rain than mainland europe, UK weather is pretty bad for a car as I even read about the occasional rust here on some bodypanels (and maybe cars are less garaged in the UK).

Most parts that come off my car I refurbish. Aluminium parts I beadblast, I got the complete rear axle out to blast/paint etc.
I'm always very jealous if I see pics of us california cars that look absolutely like new after 10+ years due to the climate.

So I can really enjoy a video like this (I never did anything on this scale).
Very thoroughly done (although the colorsceme is pretty marmite but that's a customers choice).
I imagine this is pretty expensive as obviously it costs a lot of time (and all the new fixings etc, the powdercoating)
But it shows that they take great pride in their job at Redish

Has anyone here ever had this done?

More than welcome and totally understandable. Luckily if there is any residue it's in fluid/very thin gel form, so easily "buff-able"!
