Edited email to BMW UK....
However, the reason I’m emailing is because yet another Z4 can be added to the list of FAILED SPRINGS which have been found during the recent MOT.
Can you let me know if there is any scheme or reduced cost fitting available for this known problem which occurs on Z4’s and E46 3 Series.
If not there should be as I have had cars over 12 years old with 130,000 miles on the clock that have never had springs fail.
Response from BMW......
Thank you for your email dated 15 March, 2008. I am sorry that you have
reason to contact us with regards to the springs failing on your
vehicle.
BMW aims to provide our customers with a premium product and to achieve
this we use high quality parts and components during manufacture. We do
accept however, that due to the electrical and mechanical nature of the
parts that they can fail at any time. I am sorry that you have
experienced component failures on your vehicle. I assure you that BMW
monitor all warranty claims and parts orders so that the quality of our
manufacturing is maintained. There is not currently a product
enhancement or recall for the failed springs, on the vehicles mentioned.
In order for BMW to look at assisting you, the vehicle needs to have
been diagnosed at a BMW Approved Dealership. If the dealer feels that
the failed component on your vehicle is due to a manufacturing defect,
then they have the means to contact BMW UK directly for assistance with
this matter.
I can assure you that BMW takes customer feedback very seriously and
your comments have been logged under case reference should you
need to contact us again.
I hope that the information provided has helped with your enquiry and
should you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to
contact me.
I've replied saying that it's probably a design fault and that they should read the forums or maybe the forum members should email BMW UK about this problem.
I'll update this if I get anything worth posting from BMW UK.
