Electricity use

Hmmm, that makes me feel quite happy at just over 10000kWh of consumption, but 17000 kWh of GAS :(

we also run run our business from home with a fair bit of battery charging and more computers than i can find.

Guess the lack of hairdryers makes up the difference between your usage and mine then

Maybe so, but the additional cost of using a DA to polish the old bonce probably makes up the difference :poke:

If you really want to monitor your usage closely get a SMART meter.. It is obligatory for ever uk household to have on fitted by 2020.

Jump on the band wagon early give E.On a call.

/don't look at my profile at place of work ;)

My consumption last year was 370 Kwh :D

I always get calls from the energy companies trying to get my business, and when i tell them my usage they almost hang up and say i'm not worth the paperwork

its a thing i have never even looked at, all i know is i pay £28 per month - is that good or bad?

Just curious as I just renewed my contract. I was told I was a "loyal customer and heavy user" which made me think.

How much is "heavy"? My annual consumption is 13000 Kwh.

Just renewed for two years for 9.5 p day and 6.5p night, which seemed ok.
hi. annual useage 8000 units economy and 2600 units peak, two adults and two expensive young adults who are STILL living at home and no hope of leaving :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:      :oldman: :oldman: :oldman: pay £90 month dd

Computers under load are expensive, 350 Watt power supply running 24 hours a day soon adds up.

Gaming systems and pro workstations are often north of 1KW now, some graphics cards are pulling 200W alone and gamers fitting two or even three of them. Interestingly, the CPU that used to pull 150w is coming right down. Some mobile CPUs heading south of 10w within a few months

Edit - just checked a workstation I am evaluating, 820w psu

Is that for electricity only? I pay near €100 per month for electricity and gas.

I've been told I'm in the high usage band at 7,200kWh pa.

2 adults 1 child gas hob and ovens don't use shower much, nearly all energy saving light bulbs (including the spots - you can get them!). We are at work during the day.

I have an energy monitor but it never goes below about 0.35kW even in the middle of the night. It's showing 0.55kW at the moment but someone is probably watching TV in another room.

I've tried turning off all the standby stuff like TVs set top boxes etc. and it makes bugger all difference. We have 2 fridge freezers which account for most of my background usage.

Conclusion - the energy companies are greedy thieving bar stewards and they need to be stopped. They should have by now invested in making their own businesses sustainable instead of taking all the profit out. Now we are expected to pay for their businesses to develop and implement new infrastructure. They should be bloody nationalised if they continue to behave like this.

or is it that all companies have share holders and they want lots for nothing

It was never a good idea to make essential utilities private enterprises. Political scumbags doing their mates a favour and taking something that could have been not for profit and putting it in the hands of people who are only interested in a profit, and at a bargain bucket price.

And before anyone starts shouting about the Tories, Labour were just as toadying. They're all beyond words

Elec is £180 a month

Don't have gas, but the oil is about £2500 a year.

Is 1 unit on the gas meter a kwh?

No mate, there's a forumla to do the conversion but if you want a mega rough calculation it is-

1 Unit on a metric (m3) meter = 11KWh
1 Unit on an Imperial (ft3) meter = 33KWh.

That's not 100% accurate but it's close enough for rough calculations. I'll post the proper conversion formula if you like but it's a pain in the Harris :)
