Ive purchased a OBD lead and software but im having trouble getting it to work. I followed the instructions and the INPA software loads but everything i try to open suggests it cant find the file.

There are 2 things i noticed when i did the install.

1. Whist carrying out one of the first steps i had a DOS type screen pop up following the install of NSF Entpack1 disk 1 Setup. I noted that there were 2 warning messages..

Im not sure if they are causing an issue??

2. I then saw it asked me to set the COM port value from 2 to 4. Mine was set automatically at 3 so i changed it to 4 but it would not allow me to update the C:\Windows\OBD.IN file with the same value as it would not let me overwrite the original file.

Can anyone profile any help please??
 
Ok ive managed to change the port number in the OBD.INI file but its still not talking to the computer. Is there a problem with running this software on Windows 8 ?

Its strange because at one point i did get it flashing on the INPA control panel which seem to suggest there was some kind of link but still got the same warning messages. Do you think this cable will require the same as you have done and how did you do it please?
 
I had that as well with mine. You should get the ignition and battery lights working correctly. If that doesn't work the whole setup is broken.

Seems to be the same cable as mine. White PCB is considered the 'bad' option, but works fine in my setup. Check http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=672940
 
I would say Windows 8 as well. Are you starting everything with Administrator rights and in compatibility mode?
Also got a white cable similar to yours and no problems here.

I would try dual booting and set up a fresh base copy of Windows xp (or 7), might have issues installing xp along 8 if I remember correctly but I've got the whole suite, INPA/DIS working like clockwork on mine with Windows 7. Mind you I wouldn't want to have to set it all up again (especially DIS), proper pain in the arse!

Maybe try installing a different copy of INPA as well, search around on the web.

Also, you using the cable in the same USB port that you've done all the setup in? Can't use different ports if you weren't aware, also each USB port will be assigned it's own COM port so this has to match up in the settings

To be fair i dont really know what im doing but im muddling through it.

Im just trying to set up a virtualbox and run XP from that. Im not sure if that will work or not really.

I did make sure the COM ports match on both the advanced device manager settings and within the OBD.ini file
 
Right i think im SLOWLY getting there.

You need XP to run the software properly from what ive read. Ive downloaded a Virtual Box of Windows XP. Ive selected the CD-ROM drive and as a storage device and selected pass through however the CD wont open as it normally would and its looking for a file extension for some reason.
 
Ok set up a virtual box for XP. Got the INPA software downloaded to that and working. But getting an error message

"IFH-0009: NO RESPONSE FROM CONTROLUNIT. Program will be stopped!"

Ive bridged pins 7 and 8 but still getting the same problem. Its seems to be reading stuff like the airbags but nothing else.

Is there anyone local who can a cable that works on a Z4 2006+??
 
Where are you located? I'm in Reading if that helps?

You don't need XP, 7 works ok as well although a fresh install is good base to work from.
I would say it sounds more like your cable is the problem, if it's communicating with the car to a degree then it would seem it's set up correctly......

If you've got a KLine / Dcan cable try the selector in the other position on the cable head. See if that works...?

Thanks for the reply. I think its working but its only working so somethings. Its hard to know whats what really without seeing how it worked before i had a problem.

Im in Stourbridge nr Birmingham so your a little out the way, but thank you. I dont fancy driving the car too far at the minute.

Are you able to pick the power steering up ok on yours?
