Do Z4's get particularly targetted by fraudsters on eBay or is it just because i've been looking at them for the past few months?

How do you fake the feedback score like on that second one?
 
By hijacking someone elses account :thumbsup:

The phone number isn't real on that second one by the way which i've found is a classic giveaway.
 
Vehicle scams are not unknown at all. First one has zero feedback.
Second one looks a bit more promising, you need to be cautious though.
 
but surely you wouldn't pay any money without speaking to seller and having a view of the car 1st?
 
The second one is definitely fraudulant.

The only way you can get them to respond to you is to not want to view and to offer to wire the money to secure the vehicle.

If you ask any questions around seeing the car or paying cash you get no reply.
 
Would that ever work? I mean, who would part money without seeing the car (I know this is normal practice when potentially buying an AUC from a dealer where the car is somewhere else, but privately?).
 
if your silly enough to just transfer a load of cash to somebody youve never met, for something youve never seen.... then its you own fault surely :rofl:

People do strange things when they think they're getting a bargain, or are just a bit thick :P

People pay with paypal - thinking they have seller protection on car sales. Paypal T&Cs say otherwise! :) (Or so I heard some time back.)

If you call the number in the add it automatically texts you back a message to email them @ a gmail address.
 
Recently bought a Z4 via EBay in the US. EBay recommends http://WWW.escrow.com for car sales. You wire the finds to them, they hold the funds and the vehicle title until you receive and accept the car. Only then do they release the purchase price to the seller. Based on my single data point, it works great.
 
I have followed one of these through before to see what happens and you get to the point where the car is abroad somewhere and you have to send money to a third party who handle the sale and delivery. Your money is held in trust by the third party until you accept the car after delivery when the third party pays the seller. The third party has an email address / website but if you look for the comany at company house the address is a bungalow or some other unlikely place (Google maps) and they use courier services from companies which have went bust years before. All their feedback if you do a search are linked to scam websites as well.

These exact pictures where actually being used on an Autotrader add a few months ago for a scam which I reported to Autotrader.

I said I wanted to visit the car and that I reported the add as a scam and then all contact was broken off and the ad disappeared. Don't know if it was taken off by the scammers or Autotrader.

There are no issues with this vehicle, she has been diligently maintained by a careful dealer and has been regularly serviced, it has full service history (24,500 miles) and HPI clear. The vehicle is being stored in Hillingdon, Middlesex. The final price that I want for this vehicle is £ 4,250 (including shipping and handling). I'm selling it because I've just moved abroad. Unfortunately I can't conclude this transaction personally because my work involves a lot of traveling but I left everything prepared for the sale.

Yes. The tell tale is you will not be able to speak to anyone. No matter how you justify it you will not get to speak to the seller or whatever party he has instructed to act for him in the sale.

If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is!
