Hi i have seen some kits on ebay, some with smaller ballasts.

I fit a Bosche Kit on my boxster 2 years ago and the existing wires connected into the ballast and the ballast fit into the plastic light housing (so very simple)

Is the Z4 capable of a quick wire connection and to stick your ballast into the light housing??? or is it like i have read somewhere, you have to connect to the main battery and all that crap?

Ta

There are many, many threads on here on HID conversion. If you don't already have HID, there's the LCM to change. The sealed headlight units on the Z are a royal b!+ch to open-best to have 2 sets. CJ10Jeeper has written an excellent how-to.

super, you got a link to this?

im not on about taking the actual light apart, just was gonna stick the ballast to the back of the plastic housing, is there enough room to do this? whats an LCM?

Sod the rulings, as long as I take them off for mot then they are ok.. I just need to know which ones I can get without drilling soldering etc!!!

if you get an after market kit with the error cancelling module they just plug into the existing bulb holder for power. you then have a new bulb holder on the hid.

i got a kit from here to play with, not got it on the car http://www.alltronix.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=49

on the z4 you will need to either cut a notch in the detachable silver bit of the bulb holder to feed wires through or they sell them, i just cut mine as i have a spare set of headlights.

fitment is drilling a hole in the back cover plate of the headlights and feeding the bulb/wires through then pushing a rubber stop in. you then just mount the inverter unit somewhere in the engine bay.

its a quick and easy mod

Your insurance company will love you.......

Ok they may not but as per my first post there must be a way of installing the smaller ballast inside the housing! And connect the wires into the halogen wiring, anybody done this?

I'll edit my original post, must be the kit I had as the cable market positive was plugged into the side of the bulb holder the brown cable led too to get it working, and i think the other side was a blue cable. In the end I didnt fit mine as I don't really drive at night now.

These are the easy fit ones, anyone????

Sneaky to advertise £70 each then right at the bottom point out you need 2 kits making it actually £140 plus .....

thats pretty standard for hid kits, i cant see why you'd want to change your high beams so one kit to change your low beam is enough, looks like the kit i had and similar price.

£140 is a LOT for an aftermarket pair of HIDs. "HIDs Direct" (google it Leon_in_uk) have a recognised reputation as being among the best of these type of kits, and have several options for far less than £100.

If you read the link to the other thread, it covers it all, and £140 is a joke, HID Direct are £75.00 with the cancellers, and you can fit the ballast inside the head unit
