Ok so I've just ordered a pair of these following a search on eBay for "BMW 1742690" (the part number for the pink relay!), now due to the importance of this relay I chose "New" only and then placed it in Lowest first, and a strange thing happened, the cheapest relay was a genuine one from a BMW dealer!!!!!So two relays have just cost me £27.98 with free delivery, and the most expensive ones were a whopping £30.81 each!! So always check your prices, now I may have been able to pay even less if I could be bothered to shop around even more but I thought £13.99 each was a pretty decent price to pay considering.

E89 roof relay change

I do have one question though, when reading the links to RobbiZ4 original posts I saw mention of some purple relays on the E85. If I don't changes these on my E85 and they go bad are the consequences the same as with the E89?

Relays changed and happy to say roof all good after a 5 month stint in the up position. I took the relays apart and the contacts badly pitted and signs of carbon deposits/residue in the casing and this in a 7yr old 38k car. Really glad I took the advice on this forum and got the relays changed

I have just ordered a pair of Salmon relays from ebay and they are about GBP20 each including shipping. I believe I can change them myself as the pictures Smartbear and the video RobbiZ4 have shown very clearly. I don't think the previous owners have them changed as most people here don't have the mindset about pre-caution.
I am also thinking changing the microswitches as RobbiZ4 mentioned but I am still haven't got the confidence to do it myself.
Anyway, thanks again and still enjoying the ownership of this '09 35i for the 8th month.

Thanks for this heads up. I ordered a pair of new relays from my local dealer (£25) and they arrived the next day. Replaced this weekend during a brief respire in the weather.
