E89 register

it would be a good idea for registers for all 3 models

I have not got the know how otherwise I would have done a coupe 1 years back

chassis numbers, colours, trims, number of owners etc

I have recently joined another forum, its an older car forum and they have a good database of their cars, previous owner details and various history can be found on the cars

if the forum started a database now could be good for future uses, maybe there are just too many E89's and E85's to do it

How would you control access to that info?

It continually surprises me how much info people are prepared to share on here bearing in mind they don't know the majority of people registered as members

I realise I am scarred from a couple of break ins where I lost a lot of things of sentimental value but there is no way I want any info other than my first name available to all.

+ 1

I can certainly knock something up, but as jaRED says, I'd not want anything personal against it..

a database could be set up on a pc that as no internet connection and could be used only for tracing the history.

I have to agree.

So many identity theft scams around these days makes me reluctant to share any information these days. :(

I can understand the worries, just think it would be good in a few years times, would be good to see a car appear on the forum and we could give some history on it, such as where its been and who as done what to it etc

+2

The Data Protection act would rule the majority of the personal details out!

This wouldn't help - the fact that personal data of this amount was stored in any format (it doesn't have to be accessible via the internet) would require registration under the Data Protection act... and I think we'd find it just too much hassle!

how personal does it need to be before its covered uder data protection?

may be just car details, owner surname and rough location of the vehicle, this would not give too much away

My comments were based on the example database posted earlier; basic car details & non-specific location would be fine

so off the example people could fill in what they feel comfortable with?
It's not what people are "comfortable with" that's the issue, it's the rules of the Data Protection Act that are applied to the person taking responsibility for storing the data. The more data that people were "comfortable with providing" the more likely that the database would need to be registered. I'm not saying that it's not possible, it would just need to be taken into account.
