E89 radio upgrade

Hi all,

I am thinking of upgrading my bmw professional radio with a modern one with fold out screen which accepts CarPlay. Pioneer do one but I am not sure if car trim above it will get in the way of the screen as it extends out. Has anyone else had luck fitting such a radio or similar in their car ?

I looked at one of these for my first E89. I wasn’t convinced the screen would be visible because it’s so low down. Another concern was reflection on the screen even if it wasn’t too low.

and there's very little space for the drawer to slide out. Especially in a manual I'd have thought... someone must have tried it though. I know you can get different surrounds. Have you got idrive/satnav? if not the android upgrade is an option..

As above, the Android screen for non-iDrive cars is a great option.

Yes I looked at the android option. Not sure how to order and get one or where to find a fitter ?

These are the original manufacturer for these units and where I got mine from originally .
I might be able to come out of retirement to fit it for you, I'm over in Grantham, Lincolnshire if you can't find anyone locally

I had a look at the link & couldn’t find a price

Also I’m assuming it also converts your iDrive radio function to include a DAB radio?

Or would you need to use an App to connect to digital radio stations of your choice?

A rough guide price is around £750, but you'd have to message them directly to ascertain that with postage.

As for DAB, you have 2 options, you can get a USB plug in adaptor that connects to a windscreen antenna to give you DAB, or you can use CarPlay/AndroidAuto and then have an Internet radio app (something like Tunein Radio) and do it that way. Personally I'd recommend the app through CarPlay/AA as that doesn't rely on radio frequency to be in range, although it does require a phone signal (pros and cons with botth).

I imagine you could just use the original dab radio on the bmw professional unit as I assume the android headunit plugs into the aux of the radio ?
