E89 Market watch

Not surprising; it's bright yellow. YUK. Mileage high, price high. "Some service history"? It's got painted 296M wheels (made of even weaker chocolate than 326s) and in the close up of the wheel there is a bolt missing!! No mention of what the fantastic spec is, apart from an 'upgraded exhaust system' which looks standard at the rear box and is corroded, filthy and rusty.
Sounds like a peach!

You did ask for opinions!

Anyone have any opinions on this? Or even better anyone know the car?

I can't stop looking at it and am thinking of making a bid.

Its been for sale for a while and has been coming down nicely in price but i still think its over priced a bit.

I’ve noticed that gradually dropping in price too but still think it’s greatly overpriced for the mileage. There’s obviously a premium for the colour and model but not that much imo. As in the advert, it’s £11k, what do you feel it’s worth? I’m feeling it’d start with a 9 and low one at that if I was buying it.

Obviously not the same colour and slightly older but at nearly £5k less :tumbleweed:

I am with you on the price, i think i will keep a close eye on it and see what it eventually drops to. The colour and spec are what I like about it.

The car you have sent through isn't an msport or OEM unfortunately so not for me. Also looking for a decent spec which I think the yellow one has.

Opinion noted, that's why I asked haha

I didn't notice the wheel to be fair (could be simply an old picture waiting for a new bolt to arrive) the service history I was aware of but a quick call would either give me confidence its all in order or in fact its not (if the latter i'd walk away)

Spec wise looking at the pictures I could see quite a bit of it (pictures on there website)

Thanks for the feedback though, its helpful seeing bits I missed!

Not seeing much spec on the yellow one, no iDrive or sensors that I can see.

Glasses on for you boy :poke: Definitely sensors on the front and rear bumpers and no button to release the storage bin so must be motorised/iDrive

Sean I think it does have idrive and I think it has the upgraded system with the speakers behind the seats and also pdc (maybe my eyesight is failing :oldman: )

Having sold the Melbourne Red 23i I've reached the conclusion that my zedding days are over for the foreseeable - but before I depart I thought I'd share what last week nearly became Zed #15.
The private seller would have taken £15k so Evans Halshaw have stuck £2k on for retail - still on a '65' plate in Estoril Blue with less than 22k it should make a really nice car for someone  Screenshot_20221109-175925_eBay.jpg

Quite a lot of miles, allthough those engines should rumble on forever..one of our pals 23i is on 130k and still sounds and feels tight, especially now with fresh B6s and springs..

Yellow is rare so if its your bag you may have a long wait till the next one..

Estoril Blue is a beautiful colour. For some reason, though, it just looks wrong on an E89 IMHO. Don't know why. :?
Not as wrong as yellow, though! :poke: :)

Still looking for the right car.

This one has come up on AT. I was trying to avoid black but this one looks a decent car and ticks lots of boxes.

Any thoughts or on the off chance, does anybody know the car?

Slightly amusing that he fits new discs but keeps the old pads…. :headbang:

No parking sensor, no cruise..missing wind diffuser, repair to luggage tray…

However looks pretty enough..would like to see the MOT history..

I've asked for the registration to look at MOT. Says it has PDC - can see the rear ones. Wind diffuser and whippy in the boot. What repair can you see to the tray? Not fussed about cruise personally - rarely use it.

Fair one re the brake pads though.

Yes I can see a sensor now you mention it..apologies…tray has rivet on LH bracket …on my E89s on the roads I drive I don’t use cruise save in average speed camera zones..

The repair is a common one (drill three holes through the plastic hinge and fit torque bolts - 30 min job), you can't buy the two plastic hinges from BMW and have to buy the whole shelf at a very silly price (from memory over £250). Ive done it only E89 and it's stronger than before. car looks nice, SE trim level, iDrive/PDC/upgraded stereo package/ later side indicators and sports seats. At that age/mileage I would consider getting the gearbox serviced (even though its a lifetime unit) and if its on runflat tyres consider changing them. Don't know if it's a good price, out of touch with the market as prices seem to be all over the place at the moment.

Nothing on MOT to get excited about apart from a couple of suspension bushes at c.60k miles.

£6k on WBAC. What does that equate to in real terms?

The rule of thumb that I used over the past year or so with pricing:
WBAC + £3k to 4k = average dealer prices
WBAC + £2k = sensible private prices. OR dealer prices less £2k to 3k = sensible private prices.

Based on the above, that car is £2k overpriced for a private sale (or still at early summer '22 prices). SE spec too so should be cheaper than an equivalent M-Sport.
Used car prices have been dropping (a lot) since about August. Convertibles at Xmas time even more IMO.

Thank you for that. Gives me a decent feel.

Seems he is reasonably firm on his price barring 'sensible offers' whatever that actually means, lol.

I would not take WBAC values for cars if this age with any credence…pricing from WBAC is ok for commodity cars in relatively recent production..none of the cars I was interested in in the E89 camp went finally with anything close to WBAC prices…

If you are patient and a bottom feeder and willing to take risks on poorly presented cars there are bargains to be had..however if it’s something you want to cherish / love / enjoy then starting its life with you as a bottom feeder reject will probably not bode well…IMHO :tumbleweed:
