Are you set on a 6 cyl version - take a look at this as an alternative viewtopic.php?f=41&t=130594

Or this one as private sale could save enough to buy a decent warranty - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... 5xf&page=1

Or for a little more a full fat 35iS - https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-detail ... =on&page=1

Not necessarily set on 6 cyl, though would prefer it - and would probably go for the 28i rather than 20i if I went for the 4 pot.

I like that third one - what are the big differences between 35i & iS? I realise this is basic stuff!

Hi, that 20i is putting out 30ish more bhp than a 28i and the iS puts out an extra 40 bhp, sits slightly lower, had a sportier exhaust, 10 db louder and comes with adaptive suspension as standard. Also only comes with dct. There are subtle bodywork differences too

Fair enough on the 20i - would probably need to test one. Just the idea of a BMW 6cyl appeals, irrespective of practicality considerations...

Adaptive suspension and DCT the key bits there?

That VO 4 pot is a bargain based on the spec / mileage and everyone will tell you to buy a 18i or 20i and get a remap and save £2 to £3k on the price of a 28i, it has DCT box as well.

Adaptive suspension, I would certainly want a warranty with that - did the blue one at Avanti have adaptive suspension?

The third one is a nice looking car and sensible price for a 35iS

Don’t get me wrong, 6 cylinders for me every time if possible, I only mentioned the 4 pot because you mentioned the 28i

Adaptive suspension and it sits 10mm lower. DCT, all iS’s are dct but i’s come in both manual and dct. The stock exhaust is definitely fruitier on th iS and gives a better sound being 10db’s louder. The other things are that most, if not all iS’s are MSport the i’s, especially earlier ones seem to often be SE spec like the black one linked, different steering wheel, bumpers etc. The MSport looks a bit more aggressive but some people prefer the SE for a softer ride

I like my 6cyl but would not baulk at Bings car for certain, meets just about everything I would want / need in a Zed  and at a great price

I think the que may be long - all looking for alternate cars, worth about £10k max, really just don't know what some dealers get in their heads

There are a few 23i's sitting on Autotrader at the moment between £15/£17k

The optimum word is sitting, don't see to many of them shifting and most are just looking at the 35's and thinking we can ask just a few gran less than that :headbang:

Yeah I hear what your saying Sean but if the price is inflated then they can offer more for px, a couple of them are BMW dealers, so they will be offering warranty and finance etc. Takes a lot of hassle out of buying a car, and if you don't know a lot about Z4's it will seem a lot of car for the money. Forget about the price on the screen for a lot of people its just about the monthly figure. See if they still hang around when we get this mini heatwave we've been promised.

I agree its about two things - price to change and monthly figure but if I was looking and doing the usual trawl on eBay or A/T then I would not be too interested in those cars as they appear expensive compared to others out there.

There is the summer tax for sure and the current limit on used availability but not certain many people will be looking to buy a 23i form a stealer at elevated prices, I would hope most people looking to buy a ZED had some interest in cars and would know that the cars are over priced, then again some will have no clue.

£17k is 35i money and anyone doing any research knows they should be aiming there for that money

Why on earth would you guys import Japanese models? They are almost never specced as highly as UK based versions (ie, no M-sport seats, often not even basic leather), will have no service history, satnav/i-drive won't work without an expensive conversion. Wheels are usually the most basic. I had to spend a lot to bring my E89 Jap import up to something that was comparable to an NZ-new spec. Price would be the only factor I could see influencing a decision - it would have to be an absolute bargain.
