Why on earth would you guys import Japanese models? They are almost never specced as highly as UK based versions (ie, no M-sport seats, often not even basic leather), will have no service history, satnav/i-drive won't work without an expensive conversion. Wheels are usually the most basic. I had to spend a lot to bring my E89 Jap import up to something that was comparable to an NZ-new spec. Price would be the only factor I could see influencing a decision - it would have to be an absolute bargain.
Back in the 90s and early 2000s when most cars were bog standard it was great, just needed to add a reverse light and new head unit and off you went, they were usually cheaper than uk spec and in better condition too, had a lovely mk2 mr2 and mitsubishi gto as imports back then and they were both fantastic condition low mileage examples at competitive prices.. these days not such good value

These days imports are normally strange vehicles like the Nissan Elgrand as they were never offered for sale here in the UK (With good reason), you may find the Nissan Skyline etc but not a Z4 as there are enough available in the UK.

That car at that price will never ever sell - its worth probably £9k at a push nowhere near the asking price so will be sat around for a long time

Used to love wasting import dealers time back in the late 90's - had 2 popular dealers near me, one in Bristol, one in Weston Super Mare.

Toyota MR2 Turbo revision 3+ was an absolute weapon back in the day. Shame they're all rustbuckets now.

Wbac have just updated their offer on my car - in two weeks it has gone up by £615
Do they know something I don’t ?

They did the same to me Ron, leave it a week and it will go up again by another few hundred - they just start off low at the beginning

It must be all this lovely weather we are having, people want convertibles. Not a rain cloud in sight!

I imported a 2004 Jeep Wrangler TJ..

It was in absolute fabulous condition, especially underneath where they rot out quickly in the USA and UK.

Yes it did have an aftermarket Jap sat nav/radio and some strange bastardised wiring..but otherwise was a better car at a cheaper price than UK ones..

I did look at yellow E89s from Japan and the story is different..I did see many that were better spec'd than UK ones.but the prices...

Also unlike the Jeep the electronics tends to be a killer in terms of complexity to swap out..plus in the UK the less than 10 year old rule means its not just a simple MOT to get them imported..

I wonder what the retail mark up is when it is on Cinch´s books?

Looking on Autotrader there’s a car older and more than double the miles for £29k

No idea on their mark up but going to be at £2k as a guess - if you're selling that car slam it on here and it will be gone double quick

I’m getting very tempted !
It would mean I would be without an open top until March /April next year.

You’re right, it normally goes away at the end of September.
I think it will command a good price especially so if I leave the BMW dash cam an Smarttop module fitted.
I’ve had the general  from SWMBO
Watch this space as they say!

Just wish I could afford a one owner 35iS with low miles and all the toys - think it will sell quickly

One of those rare, safer, value retaining ones. Not the greatest spec but a reasonably rare sight with decent miles on it

Ah yes, I see. What I should have asked was why would you import Euro cars from Japan? They almost always seem to be a lower spec/quality than the equivalent from the UK. However, Japanese cars are another matter altogether. As most of our vehicle fleet is made up of Jap imports we had the luxury of being able to enjoy an enormous range of domestic market models (JDM) for many years, so MR2's, GTR's, EVO's, WRX's Supras etc for example were very common sites. I would hazard a guess that there may be more of those 'gems' tucked away in garages in NZ than just about anywhere in the world, although the boy-racer fraternity have probably ragged/wrecked most of them by now
