E89 Market watch

Hi, they seem to suffer from oval/scored bores causing oil burning & power loss-that's on top of the gearbox bearing which seems to fail randomly
I was considering a Cayman until I started to read of £10k engine rebuilds hitting owners-it doesn't seem rare either
Rob

It depends on the model whether they score their bores or not.

The 987.1 Boxster and Boxster S (3.2) are much more reliable. The later 987.1 S 3.4 and 987.1 Cayman S are much more risky.

I'm going to wait a bit longer for a 987.2 with DFI engines - much better MMI and peace of mind with regards to engine issues.

The most common problems on 986/987 boxes are battery dying, water pump shaft failure, and Air Oil Seperator failure, i have had all of those at various times and they are all possible to do at home.
The more scarey problem with Boxsters are Rear main seal failures and Intermediate Shaft Failures, its why i moved to a Gen 2 car to get rid of the constant worry,
There is a vid on Youtube of a Boxters IMS letting go but i cant find it atm
i did document my AOS failure for the Boxster forum

Thought I wanted a Z4 coupe but have recently started looking at 987 Boxters.
Few scary stories on their problems kinda putting me off.
Then I saw that £8000 E89 and that got me thinking.
Now I have 3 cars in the mix.
Decisions,decisions.

2009 23i with Idrive went for £8795 on Ebay 1 bid.

Must be the cheapest E89 out there

Well my car is worth what I paid and will certainly get my monies worth by keeping very long term.
But it's interesting how low prices might drop on a car that obviously didn't sell well, so might be more difficult to get rid.

It has 93k on the clock !!! and again it is on paper so we don't really know the condition of the car, it can be anything !

This looks a good buy:

Our 35i which we sold to WBAC has been for sale now for 8 weeks at a dealer, they've already dropped the price twice. It is mechanically very sound, but needed a lot of paint work due to stone chips, as it had been our DD for 4.5 years and I don't expect that's been sorted by either WBAC or the dealer that's now got it for sale.

Lovely red low mileage 23i M Sport here

Bloody cheek  & its also a hopeful ask for a 2011 23i auto at £15k :? fair enough its Msport on 19s ( no nav though ) but its way into 3.0 territory & makes the red 35i linked above look a steal at £14k

I think if that was blue (with the same features/interior) I'd be doing some serious man maths...
With the GBP still sitting a bit low after Brexit, it's become more attractive to look at UK imports again.

nothing to do with me....just noticed it on AT

Thats a lot of car for little money
Mike

Whhoooo i thought it was sub 10k miles for £9 999 :o even heading towards 70k if it doesn't rattle like a set of Mechano when its fired up & all ticks out with the history that is just one more Z bargain from a year jam packed full with them .
Seller need s to make his mind up whether the 18s are 18s or 17s ( they are 18s ) :P but has to be worth a sniff for anyone considering a jump in that direction

Think that's the first 35i under £10k I have seen

It is blue though

And SE

And crap spec

And has them horrible wheels on

If blue is your colour get those alloys swapped for a set of 19" 326s and you've got great 35i for low money
