If you're looking for a modern classic Ford Focus, you want one of the 3 cylinder Ecoboosts
This thread is turning into Focus and Cavalier watch
BTW your 35is looks familiar; is it new? :D

Someone is coming to look at my 35i today, hoping the price of the 35is doesn't rocket too much as that's my next purchase.

Hi Roy, I'm curious why you're going 35is after the 35i, I've been looking at both too you see. Besides the obvious price difference and a bit more HP the M sport 35i offers a great deal and can be mapped easily for a few more extra ponies.

 funny you should say that, it is new (to me).

For what it's worth, I've never driven a 35i, but I can't imagine that it ever feels underpowered on public roads.

A lot depends what you use the car for , a DCT has its plus points as a daily but if you are buying a weekend pleasure car then a mapped manual 35i is the one to have .
Of all the 16 Zs ive owned its the car is most want to have back in my garage

The 35is is the top model that if fully loaded will top the 35i by having 40 odd more BHP.
The 35i can be specced the same as the 35is including adaptive suspension as far as I know but anybody who has done this surely made a mistake and should just have ordered a 35is instead.
In my opinion buy the 35is if you want the auto gearbox. Buy the 35i and have it mapped to the same power if you want a manual gearbox without the expensive suspension.

Not a fan of silver but by god that does look very very nice indeed

I have mr wilks old 35iS, I surprisingly quite like the DCT box, the E89 is a GT car not a sports car or hot hatch B road monster. So the box will waft along nice, but heck if you shove it to the left it takes on a whole new angry character. Then there are the paddles to shift with. It suits the car and engine. Plus I wasn’t impressed with the manual gear change on my previous 3.0si.

Very similar experience here, I always lean towards a manual (my previous 19 cars have all been manual) but the manual gearbox in my 30i just wasn't very good in my very humble opinion and took the joy out of shifting - still would have had it over the torque converter auto though. I agree with your assessment of what the car is and the DCT adds to that experience. Effortless and relaxing in normal mode, angry, shouty and dramatic in sport. You could happily do a couple of thousand miles across Europe in it with the cruise control on, but still have a blast on the twisty mountain road at the other end. Best of both worlds for me.

All just personal preference, of course.

I've enjoyed both gearboxes formerly in BMW form of the E92 M3 with exactly the same box but with different map.

Ps, that that is a lovely looking silver Z4, I'm not surprised you miss it..

I started looking for either but managed to find a 35is in my price range 7 months ago. Never driven any other Z4 other than mine so not in a position to compare.

I've never owned an auto car before so if I'd have opted for the 35i then a manual it would've been.

I have no regrets though with the 35iS with the DCT.
