e89 hit and run - hope this isn't one of us...

Titled a "hit and run", but in the comments the OP of the video states that the BMW driver has paid for the damage!?!?

TBH - as accidents go, it didn't look that bad. Accidents happen. If the BMW driver has paid for the repairs / damage etc... I am not sure I see what the issue is.

I drive in and out of Canary Wharf every day. Despite my best efforts to be careful and considerate of all other road users (cyclists and motorcyclists included), accidents will inevitably occur at some point.

Yes cyclists are more exposed, yes that looked like a silly mistake on behalf of the E89 driver... but nobody died or was seriously injured... breakages were paid for. Really not sure I see an issue here.

I've never liked E89 drivers

In all seriousness, a lot of drivers attitudes towards cyclists is appauling and vice versa (although not in this case). These cases do nothing but fuel the rift between the two.

The problem is the driver was clearly involved in an accident, and didn't stop. Not even for 30 seconds to ensure he hadn't seriously harmed the cyclist.
That's the major problem.

Unless I'm missing it, the only comment I can find says that the driver paid for the damage, but who knows if that's only after the police / insurance have collared him?

I hate cyclists when driving, really do.
But I always give them room and if I was EVER to hit one, even gently, I'd damn well stop.

a11y on the forum recorded worse, he was knocked off his bike deliberately by a reckless driver, and the guy drove off. He captured on film and it led to a conviction

A bit odd that there is a passenger in the car. The driver driving off pretending not to notice is one thing, but doing it with a passenger in the car seems a bit odd.

My assumption was that the driver had stopped the other side of the roundabout - just after the video was abruptly ended. Otherwise would have ended in a conviction AND having to pay up.

Of course I agree that driving away from any accident is not on.

I recognise that road, it Ferensway in Hull. It depends which exit the driver took off the roundabout so not sure where he would stop as its a very busy road.

It's no wonder Z4 drivers get a bad name when you have a**holes like that driving on the road

and that is why it is not safe to ride a bicycle on city streets in today's world. I preferred major roads with shoulders..... not congested roundabouts. I had my first road bike knocked out from under me and it was dragged 50yds under the small delivery truck before he noticed anything. Luckily I rolled onto the centre line of the road.... the bastard destroyed my Coventry Eagle, the only thing salvageable was one pedal.

times change, it aint safe to ride a bike anymore.

did he even hit him? if that fool is claiming for damages, what was damaged exactly? he seemed to be able to ride off just fine

i hate cyclists with a vengeance too. i was doing a 3 point turn in the middle of a road once and this cyclist tries to ride around me whilst i am in the middle of doing the manoeuvre and then starts crying that i almost ran him over when he cut in front of me. if it had been a car or motor cycle, they would have waited patiently to finish the turn but this guy obviously thought that common courtesy didnt apply to him!

Why dont the cyclists use the cycle lanes?? Do they have a complex or something? the number I see down the A4 right next to the cycle lane baffles me!!

Yes you're right, let's hope this isn't one of us.

I for one don't want to be associated with anyone that that plays with a kid's toy on a dangerous road with a camera strapped to their helmet. :poke:

Headcams seem to make people more confrontational from what I have seen in London ;) I just use my go pros off road to capture the crashes :D

Heh, always sparks some interesting comments this one.

Didn't really look like a hit-and-run if you ask me, this sort of stuff happens very regularly. I've been knocked off my bike a few times, once by a Chelsea tractor (Cayenne Turbo) in Chelsea.. of all places, who overtook then turned sharply in front of me, and also drove off.. lucky i unintentionally left a shoulder sized dent in her back left door eh. Another time by an Addisson Lee taxi, who also disapeared after removing my rear wheel from my bike, and leaving me lying in the middle of the road outside Buckingham Palace.

I'm a cyclist, i cycle ~8 miles each way every day to the centre of London. I'm a driver, i have a nice red Z4 M Coupe and i drive it whenever i can. I love my bike, and i love my car. I try to be a good cyclist, i get angry at those cyclists who think they own the road, or jump red lights and make me look bad, or those nutters who go ape s**t and start shouting/kicking cars because someone made a mistake. But equally i'll also have words with crap drivers who risk lives to save 2 seconds of their time. Hell, i've even stopped undercover armed response guys speeding round Parliament Sq who very nearly killed the guy in front of me - very funny to be part of really, entirely their fault but they obviously never get anyone questioning what they do.

Envy - Pretty funny to state you hate all cyclists, then complain it's because they didn't extend common courtesy to you - see what's wrong with that?

On the flip side, as a driver - too many Cyclists don't know how to ride safely. There's no cycling test or proficiency requirement, with an ever increasing amount of Cyclists on the roads. 5 years ago when i first started commuting by bike, there was me, about 3-4 other guys on my way to work ..maybe.. Now there's ~5-25 at every major junction/traffic lights waiting to set off. Something needs to change. Arguably no worse than the retards who can't drive down a motorway in anything other than the middle lane though.

I can't see the video on mobile, but I understand everyone hear doesn't seem to take a liking to cyclists? Am I wrong? Or atleast STOOPID ones? This is why I'm happy everyone in the U.S is to fat to ride bikes as much as yall! If I remember correctly my city (houston) was the fattest city in 2012. I'd imagine this video sums up how most cyclists are over there? http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YDAYkdlKEGI&ctp=CAUQpDAYBCITCKXa3vPR5b0CFQpUqgod8AMA1g%3D%3D&gl=US&guid=&hl=en&client=mv-google he got turned into a samich!

The fattest city in the UK is whichever one I'm in at the time!

I think the biggest issue is that a lot of cyclists seem to think that if they fit, they can go and that rules of the road do not apply. I have been tempted too many times to open my door when I see one sneaking between cars in a lineup...

as a former cyclist I never did that, didn't run lights , played by the same rules as the cars ....and still got run over ...

"oops I was just getting out to check my wiper blade and this twat ran into my door ."
