E89 Comprehensive problem list

For example, there is some debate on the Mercedes-Benz world Forum as to wind noise around the top of the new c class front windows. So the other day I decided to take the Z4 out for a same speed run because I thought that the car had much less wind noise than the C class however I did Notice it had just the same level of wind noise but you could hardly hear it over the road noise in the Z4. It just shows that the C class is so quiet in every other respect the wind noise becomes noticeable.

Road noise in the zed is dreadful and if I couldn't drop the top I wouldn't have the car !
I find voices must be raised at motorway speeds top up.

Maybe I've been spoiled with my other cars or I'm just getting old. :D

Having said that, I love the car and will keep this one for many more years and would happily buy another one

Maybe you guys are just going deaf. :)
Not got a problem with noise with the roof up and feel its a lot quieter than previous cars, not expensive cars right enough.

Audi 3.0 Tdi and a Disco 3 so maybe both on the quiet side?
The zed needs raised voices but as I say, that's mainly road noise from the runflats - I can live with it.
It means I hear less nagging :D

Our Mini has a panoramic roof and when you pick up the speed or its really windy outside its very noisy.
Road noise is very loud also especially if you sit in the back.

We are going deaf and therefore think the car is noisy? Er...

If going deaf we'd think it super quiet! Which is is NOT. The e89 is loud inside on the motorway.

Name me a 2 seater convertible with 19" wheels that isnt..

Tyre noise is what you can hear, but being sat so closely to the fat rear tyres doesnt help, neither do runflats

Holy s**t Maniac, another 5 months have passed.
My deaf comment was about what Ronk had said about having to raise voices to be heard. It was a joke. :)

Me no listen... You say many thing... What?

1. sDrive28i 8-speed steptronic
2. 2015
3. Alpine White
4. Coral Red Kansas

5. Roof failure to retract at 17,000 miles in..
Required new wiring harness sent from Germany and 39 hours labor..sat 3 weeks at my dealership, fully covered under warranty

6. AC Condenser leak at 22,000 miles.. deemed act of god and not covered under warranty. Replacement condenser found on ebay for $120USD and paid 2 hours labor at 3rd party mechanic to replace. Dealership wanted $500 for condenser and 3 hours labor

7. Oil leak and leak near the turbo at 49,995 miles.. two hoses replaced fully covered under warranty

8. 50,505 miles possible blown differential.. going into 3rd gear from a traffic light the car felt like it had a tire blow out, pulled over to park and check.. tires fine.. engine would not restart and transmission would not shift out of park.. towed to dealership tonight, awaiting to hear from service advisor tomorrow for their findings. Convenient this would happen 500 miles past the end of my 4 year 50k mile warranty and just 3 days after they last had it serviced overnight.

This is were you find out how good your dealership is. Hopefully they should cover that as a good will gesture under the warranty, if not, contact BMW head office in USA. Good luck and keep us updated.

Turns out the motor blew and needs to be replaced.. they drained the oil and it looked like metallic brown paint because it had an abundance of metal flakes in it. They assume it might be related to timing belt issues they've experienced with this model, but I believe when they replaced a hose the previous week for an oil leak, they may have not done it very well or topped off the oil. They couldn't manually start the motor with a ratchet as the bolt was just stuck. The OBD fault list showed SuperKnocks in cylinders 2, 3, and 4 and about 15 other codes.. Engine replacement is estimated at $15,000.. my advisor said he is "trying to get it goodwilled" but we shall see whether or not that happens. He said he will let me know in a few days.

"trying to get it goodwilled"

What they trying to do, work out what excuse to give BMW why they didn't replace oil!

Update: BMW called today to tell me they will 100% goodwill the replacement of the engine and labor costs.

Phew :| close call to a hefty bill there
Of all the 89s I wonder about the 2.8s longterm whether they can stand the hammering of what is the 2.0 petrol engine with a tuned to the max turbo charger .
In your sig i notice yours is also electronically tweaked :? could that not effect warranty ?

Thought that myself Andy. Don't think I would put that upgrade on my signature. Remaps will void your warranty :(
