Joking about the prison bit. Got off with a warning because they had no way of knowing how fast I was doing.lux said:Quadracer said:Managed to get 175mph out of the beast on the A1(M) and got prison for it. I'm out now :evil:lux said:Yeh, where you been Si?

R.E92 said:I would like to know how the DCT holds up with these remaps.
I'm also unsure about which remap is hardest to detect. Most can be removed and offer code clearing functions to hide their presence.
I'm sure most dealerships don't care but if the DCT box or turbos went bang then maybe they would look a little harder.
R.E92 said:Well since my last post in this thread I went ahead and did an ECU remap. I did consider a piggyback unit but decided against it (I won't bore you with the details)
The stock power output is fine for a while but I'll always want more power
Went with the OpenFlash tablet from Procede Tuning. Worked out about £300 after shipping and taxes.
There are only two real options when it comes to ECU remaps with the n54 and both are US based. Cobb or Procede.
The Cobb unit is a fair bit more expensive and the guy behind Procede is called Shiv who is the godfather of n54 tuning so I decided to go with Procede.
I haven't yet been for a dyno but the map itself is working brilliantly. The logging function of the OpenFlash means you can see the timing advance, fuel trim and boost pressure to gauge the health of the tune.
It's holding 15psi with no fuel trim issues. I've compared it to logs from similar Cobb maps and it seems a lot smoother.
A few US posters at bimmerpost have done dyno runs with the Stage1 flash and have reported around 340-360 horsepower and the wheels. Which is 391-414HP at the crank. That's around the sort of figures people are getting from Cobb and the JB4 piggyback unit.
It certainly pulls a lot harder and with the DCT you very quickly end up doing stupid speeds. It's so smooth in delivery that you don't really appreciate it until you watch how fast the speedo moves!

My mate is warranty manager at local bmw dealer. 1st thing they do when cars go in for any work they put the car on the diagnostic machine, I traded our 335d in for our 640d got top money for itwhen it went into workshop for preparation for approved bmw sale it showed up that car had been remapped. Car went straight to auction. Oops ! my mate was telling me they get lots of cars in with warranty claims that get knocked back due to remaps. Be cautious folks. Sometimes they show goodwill with cars outwith warranty, but Not if there mapped. Won't be mapping anymore of mine ! Well that's what i'am telling the wife
