E89 35i m sport ... where are they?.

Looking to try and get into a 35i around 2009 / 10 and most of the used cars for sale are all non m sport models. Seems strange as I though with this type of car the m sport would be the option box to tick? I have around £14500 so a 35is is just out of reach ..... did they produce many msport models around this time?

Yep M sport was a later design. SE like mine were first models out. Plus side, many have the nicer design interior. Get one of those and retrofit bumpers for same outcome.

I've been keeping an eye on the 35i market for a little while now. There is one AUC car that was for sale last week for £15750 and there was a private one for sale a few weeks back for around £14k IIRC. Other than that it's slim pickings unless you want to up the budget by a couple of thousand.

Ah ok, thanks for the insight. I sold my e85 3.0 a year ago now and moved to the dark side! Bought myself an SLK55 AMG as I always wanted that V8 AMG sound track with huge performance. But 12mths down the line and the love affair has never really taken off. The AMG is very quick and sounds fantastic it just is not engaging and the automatic box is diabolical. That is why I am looking at the 35i, I loved my e85 and was sad when it went. Will the 35i with DSG give me back that chuckable 2 seater that I had? The 35i is not far off the performance which is what I want, but it needs to be engaging. Is the e89 and improvement over the e85 or is it going to be like my AMG ..... fast be no personality? Any advice accepted :D

Both the SLK55 AMG and 35i / 35is are classed as Grand Tourers. When they designed the E89 they were looking at the SLK55 AMG as a target. The E89 through many reviews was critiqued for its lack of engagement.

The DCT box is sublime, the car is comfortable, fast and stylish. It is one of those things where its a case of what do you find engaging? The E89 is no Porsche Cayman in terms of "engagement" but it is a great comfortable cruiser that is effortless to drive (minus the fact its 1600kg which you can feel in the steering lol). Any car can be engaging just comes down to your driving style and getting used to the feel of the car. Certain cars will give more feedback and cues than others or make you feel like you are doing more, but in a real world scenario driving on UK roads how often are you really going to be driving at the limit using the feedback or the car to hit the apex of every corner?

My advice is test drive one

If you want one get in quick lost two when I was looking one was brought from photos before even being stuck on the forecourt
Managed to bag a 30,000 mile one all the right toys for sensible money. And loving every single penny spent
