e86 Coupe - water in the battery box??

Morning all!

After having a few condensation problems i put it down to me getting in the Zed after gym/Football a little bit moist.
Having dried the car for a few days with a dehumidifier in the boot, i went out on Monday evening and left the Zed a couple of hours and mine was the only condesnated car in the car park. AND the infamous Runflats lost pressure (paint corrosion on lip..)
So popped to my tyre guy and when i got my locking wheel Key from the alcove where the battery sits, there was about 1/2inch of clean water?

I’ve soaked it all up and will eventually take the battery out to see if theres a loose grommet underneath, but i think its more of a perished seal... question is does anyone have this same issue??

Any pointers appreciated 👍🏼

Vents around rear light cluster are usual suspects.
Also sounds like someone has plugged your battery box drain holes. Possibly to protect the amp from water damage.

I think it is the seal around the 3rd brake light on the boot. I’ve taken the battery out and theres nothing untoward, ive taken the back plastics to expose the seals around the lights for a quick glance and everything looks dry.

My 2 options i think are:
New 3rd brake light - there is a couple of small cracks and i think the seal looks goosed on the right hand side of it.
Investigate around the boot lid some more incase theres an ingress.
I have placed tactical blue roll throughout the rear of the car, and for the first time in a long while i’m hoping for some rain whilst the cars static so i can continue to investigate.

The condensation is now getting to levels where it is making me hate using the car when its even remotely wet outside!!

Are there supposed to be holes in them? :?
There are in mine.
I plugged the rear ones where the amp is located as I don’t need the expense of replacing it again due to water ingress.

Doorcards are for cabin area. So if you’ve got water in boot and cabin, pretty sure the source will be two separate things.

If you’ve got water in the boot, then 3rd light and the rear lights is a good place to start. The light surround trim can cause water ingress (fixing points) as well as a poor membrane or inadequate tightening on the rear cluster itself.

Let me know if you need photos to help... appreciate that a picture often tells a thousand words? Or something like that lol

Will check mine. Had a lot of water in one of our Mini’s recently. No plug in there... haven’t seen one in the Zed so will be checking! Thanks
